‘Tis the season…

Lads, just forget it!

Every morning the swallows come in and do three laps round the table - then out. It’s a heartwarming sight.

I came across this ruin on the moors. A hushed and beautiful place and somehow poignant to see the stones weep ferns and the crooked beam shouldering the weight of birdsong and cold winds.

The swallows arrived home this morning! Best news of all and always brings a tear to my eye. They’re busy checking out their nests in the porch.

Quite something to see our wall (pointed and strengthened by our amazing volunteers) holding back the flood water today. Any deeper and it starts to push under but I think we’ll get away with it now. Hope everyone safe tonight.

Another magical encounter with an extraordinary bird today. This beautiful little goldcrest came to say hello. It’s Europe’s smallest bird weighing a little less than a 20p coin and yet each year it manages to cross the North Sea. It may be small but it has the heart of a lion!

Such a wonder and a miracle to see a swarm of bees, here, on a path edged with bluebells in the middle of nowhere. Such industry, such purpose. With no way of collecting them, I had to walk on by. Good luck bees!

Sitting by a stream in the dappled light. I’ll take this memory home with me and I’ll sip it later, slowly.

This is how things are looking at Gwydir this afternoon: we’re doing some paperwork by the fire and watching the rain fall.

If I opened that window she’d be in and warming herself by the fire…

It’s been a wet afternoon here at Gwydir: wistful clouds; old doors swollen in damp frames; wet dogs rolling on threadbare rugs, fire alight in the parlour hearth.

It’s a perfect day for a visit to Gwydir. Peacock tails and wisteria are in full glorious bloom! Open today/Ar agor heddiw (11am-4pm)

Settling in… #rescuedog Greyhound Gap

Experienced the perfect simplicity of this little medieval church today on Ynys Mon/Anglesey. Remote. Peaceful. Powerful. It’s all that remains of a village wiped out by the Black Death. Thank you Friendless Churches for your quiet custodianship. St.Mary’s, Tal-y-Llyn.

It’s ice on the inside of the windows for us this morning! A big bowl of porridge calls…

Sun’s out, skies are blue, and the peacocks are eating the wisteria. It’s another beautiful day and we’re open from 11-4pm.

One of those incredibly still and peaceful mornings with the air full of birdsong and the bleat of spring lambs back on the valley meadows.

First cold, first glitter of frost, and we begin our dreaming - go inwards, crawl under…fall out of sight.

There’s something miraculous about seeing rain fall through sunshine.

It’s raining and the cooler air brings the comfort of a jumper and a rest from outside jobs. The dogs stretch, lean into the silence and doze.

May is always a manic month for us. So much to do! Turn your back for a second and the briars are in.

Cleaning the roofs today. It’s amazing who you meet up here snoozing in the sun.

The rare and precious beauty of these ancient walls and pathways. One foot, one paw, steadily in front of the other. Peace always the gift.

Wise and peaceful counsel this morning from a tree that’s said to be over a 1000 years old.

Apologies…I know we’re a bit top heavy on the peachick clips at the moment but this little foursome have just arrived from nowhere and they’re enjoying their first paddle in the sunshine.

The swallows feel quite comfortable with us now. They come in when they want to rest and seem quite intrigued by the music we play and then they’re off again. Five precious minutes sitting quietly with this little bird feels like the most extraordinary privilege.

Everything’s a bit scary when you’re 3 inches tall!

Perhaps not how we would have chosen to start the new year! Red flood alert on the Conwy last night. Keep smiling everyone…2025 is a year to make good things happen!

Just as with places, certain old objects have that magical, otherworldly quality to them. This medieval box with its scenes of courtly love carries its past with it through the centuries. I put my eye to its keyhole &amp; see greyhounds and troubadours &amp; tapestried halls…
