Marjorie Taylor Greene: “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up” AOC: “That is absolutely unacceptable. How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person” Marjorie Taylor Greene: “Why don’t you debate me?” AOC: “I think it’s gonna be self-evident” Marjorie Taylor Greene: “Yeah, you don’t have enough intelligence” James Comer: “Miss Greene, do you agree to unanimous consent to strike your words?” Marjorie Taylor Greene: “Yes, I’ll strike my words but I’m not apologizing” Jasmine Crockett: “I’m just curious to better understand your ruling. If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blonde, bad built, butch body… that would not be engaging in personalities correct?” James Comer: “Uh, a what now?”

• Coleman Hughes's appearance on The View "There's no evidence that I've been co-opted by anyone. I have an independent podcast, I work for CNN as an analyst, I write for The Free Press, I'm independent in all of these endeavors and no one is paying me to say what I'm saying"

A full-time lifestyle influencer shares why she feels this path is no longer for her. Really great POV “I’m tired of making everything about myself. My job requires me to look at myself, talk about myself, post myself, and reply to comments about myself. It is way too much of a self-obsessive job” “On TikTok, you have to talk in short sentences. I’ve learned to not elaborate on my idea — which for years of my academic life, I was taught to elaborate on points. TikTok has kind of brainwashed me into just giving blurbs with zero explanation because the less you explain, the shorter the video, and the more comments you’ll get. I’ve gotten in the habit of giving less information” “I went on vacation and it was the first time in three years I was able to exist without that little voice in my head telling me you should be taking a photo right now, you should make a video about this, you should make a vlog, you should do a GRWM, you should post an update. It was liberating” “Usually my time is divided between me existing and then me posting about my existence. On this trip, I lived”

This video from Taylor Lorenz about the potential collapse of journalism is deeply important. Especially over the past 48 hours “I don’t think people understand how bad the world would be without journalists” “I don’t want to live in a world where all of the news is delivered through 60-second videos with retention editing” “The rise of citizen journalism on apps like TikTok and elsewhere has overwhelmingly been a positive thing. … but there’s a ton of really talented journalists that are also just not great social media people” “Some journalists do really deep investigations or local reporting or sit through hour-long city council meetings to hold some local politician to account… and that’s really important work. And it’s work that somebody should pay for and it’s work that’s not rewarded by these social media algorithms” “It’s really hard to amass a subscriber base and then maintain that subscriber base over time when you’re doing investigative work. And that’s if you don’t get sued out of existence after you publish the first critical story of a billionaire” “Journalism is something a lot of people won’t realize they miss until it’s gone”

S/o Douglas Murray for calling out those who carelessly and consistently broadcast irresponsible info and hide behind "comedian" or whatever it may be to make it seem alright I talk about this dynamic in my piece titled “Your favorite podcasters don’t claim to be experts or journalists” CC Joe Rogan Dave Smith

I sat down with social psychologist Jonathan Haidt to discuss his new book, “The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness”. Haidt has been conducting leading research on the effects of Gen Z’s smartphone-based childhood and has proposed four norms to potentially shift future generations’ relationship with this technology Chapters 0:00 - Haidt’s current mission 04:39 - Zuckerberg denying the link between social media and poor mental health 08:25 - How data is reported for mental health studies 11:29 - Our relationship with social media being complicated 13:24 - Media mind-warp vs Clinical mental illness 19:27 - Ages 10-13 being particularly vulnerable 23:02 - Haidt against deeming the digital world as part of the “real world” 27:53 - Young people becoming brand managers 29:35 - Can humans evolve to handle the digital world as a norm 36:20 - Haidt’s four reforms 40:57 - Parents overprotecting in the real world and under-protecting in the digital world 45:56 - The education system’s role 49:08 - Jules reflects on growing up online 50:59 - Haidt reiterates his mission 52:49 - Haidt questions Jules 54:45 - How to make being alone a positive thing 56:37 - Outro While I generally agree with his four norms, I believe the age to make a social media account should be 14 alongside the age he proposes teens get a smartphone. If age 16, I think it could cause weird social dynamics between upper and lower classmen in high school. I would also love for him to include more about how parents should let their children be the ones to kickstart and control their digital footprint when they want to around that age or older. Though, we didn’t have time to cover these topics this time around
