Today, at Carbon Removal Day, I announced that the Government of Canada is a founding member of the Advance Carbon Removal Coalition. Alongside our partners, we are mobilizing $100 million to build a high-integrity carbon removal market right here in Canada. Canada has a competitive advantage in this sector. We have the natural assets, innovation, and expertise to lead on the world stage. We must meet this moment with confidence, and as leaders in carbon removal. Through our Climate Competitiveness Strategy, we are turning climate action into economic strength, creating jobs, protecting our environment, and ensuring Canadian industries lead in the global net-zero economy. Because when we invest in a clean future, we aren’t just building a stronger economy for today — we’re building a more competitive and resilient Canada for generations to come.

Today, we signed a historic agreement to protect thousands of kilometres of coastal waters adjacent to the Great Bear Rainforest with Wuikinuxv, Nuxalk, Kitasoo Xai'xais, Heiltsuk, Gitxaała, and Gitga’at Nations, and the province of British Columbia. This is the first of up to ten new national marine conservation areas we are establishing through our new nature strategy — helping conserve biodiversity on BC’s Central Coast for generations to come, and contributing to our goal of conserving 30 per cent of marine and coastal waters by 2030.

Bill C-9, the Combatting Hate Act, would stop the use of swastikas and symbols of terror organizations to promote hate, and it strengthens hate laws and protections against intimidation intended to impede access to a place of worship. This legislation is about protecting people and standing up against hate — conservatives need to stop the obstruction and vote for it.

More than 4,800 hectares in the Loch Lomond and Spruce Lake watersheds are now formally conserved — safeguarding clean drinking water for the community and vital habitat for wildlife. This work in partnership with the Nature Conservancy of Canada, the City of Saint John, and New Brunswick strengthens Canada’s efforts to build climate-resilient communities and protect the natural systems that support us all.
