Russian security forces have cordoned off the Sennoy Market in St. Petersburg with the apparent aim of conscripting migrants for the war. OMON (special police) units and regular police forces blocked the area around the market—located on Moskovsky Prospekt—preventing men from leaving after they had attended Friday prayers in a prayer room on the premises. Authorities are checking the documents of foreign nationals; in the case of individuals who have recently acquired Russian citizenship, they are also verifying whether they are properly registered in the military conscription system. Eyewitnesses reported that many men were handed summonses to report to a military commissariat. The raid also extended to shops, cafés, and hostels in the immediate vicinity of the market. According to local media reports, several dozen people were detained for various offenses.
