Bronco Mendenhall brought up how he'd like to have the former players serving as flag bearers to ride the horses that have also become part of the pre-game ritual for Aggie football games, but risk management has prevented it thus far. After the mics were turned off, I suggested that maybe he could ride a horse out himself to start the game and Mendenhall said that's actually been brought up numerous times already since he's been pushing others to ride the horses. But long story short, the odds of former players or Mendenhall himself riding a horse onto the field seem pretty slim (for now).

The idea of eliminating college football conference title games has been brought up recently, and Utah State head coach Bronco Mendenhall said he'd be in favor of that. "We just played the entire season. And whoever won, won the conference. I don't think there needs to be another game prior to the playoffs."

Jerrod Calhoun fielded three straight Mountain West and Pac-12 related questions. As part of his responses, Calhoun said the Mountain West is a "storied conference." "The history of this league is really rich. It's a basketball conference. It really is. The fans, the environments, it's been a joy to coach in for two years." In regard to the Mountain West not sending a conference representative to San Diego to see the Aggies play, Calhoun said "Let's call it like it is, a very ugly breakup." Following up by saying the whole deal is "way above my pay grade."

The case for Bryson Barnes for Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year has some pretty big voices behind it. Fresno State HC, Matt Entz — "I think (Barnes) is the best football player in our league right now." Boise State HC, Spencer Danielson — "He's probably going to be the Offensive Player of the Year in our conference and he's absolutely deserving of that." Utah State HC, Bronco Mendenhall — "It's Bryson Barnes every day, all day, every vote."

I asked the four Utah State players at today's post-game press conference -- seniors Kolby King, Zach Keller, Garry Clark and Drake Allen -- what this season playing for the Aggies and in Logan meant to them. KING - "It meant a lot. I appreciate Aggie Nation and Calhoun for taking me in, especially all the sacrifices we made as a group. It's probably been like the best team I've been on so far in my career. And I appreciate what Logan has done for us." KELLER - "From the time I got on campus this summer, I understood it was a standard and expectations that I wasn't used to. Dealing with the returners, they got us in tune with how things are ran. And they did a great job. We understood how things should be run and how we gotta handle things. I just want to thank the returners for embracing us new guys as much as they did." CLARK - "The culture at Utah State is the best part about what's going on from the fan bases to the culture we have on the basketball team, a brotherhood a great community and if you don't want to play for a great community, then I don't know why else would you play college basketball. From the day we all stepped on here, we were welcomed with open arms and it's been a blessing to play in this uniform." ALLEN - "It hurts. I don't want to take the uniform off. Knowing it's going to be my last time wearing it it means so much. And it really just feels like family, everybody in Logan, it feels like one big family. I really want to give glory to God just because I feel like nothing -- everything happens for a reason. I think that these group of guys were put together for a specific reason, a special reason, not only these group of guys but these coaches as well. I think that everything happens for a reason. I think God has put us here. It's all according to His plan. I'm just very grateful that we've been able to experience this in Logan, being Aggies. It doesn't get better than that."

Bronco Mendenhall on Utah State's series with Utah. "I think it's great for the state. I think it's great for Utah State. I think it makes a lot more sense than traveling two time zones to play in a league that people don't really care about, and there's no natural rivalry." The series was recently extended, with upcoming games this year and in 2030, 2031 and 2033.
