This is Dr. Tahir Mahmood, a 72-year-old physician who ran a free medical camp in Karachi, serving the poor with compassion and dignity. He was arrested under Pakistan’s anti-Ahmadi laws—at the behest of religious extremists—for the “crime” of offering Friday prayers. He was ill. Authorities denied him access to his medications. He died in custody on the sixth day of his imprisonment.
