‼️MARCO RUBIO: Starshield is a contract with the U.S. military. It has nothing to do with Ukraine. I’m not sure Zelenskyy knows what he’s talking about. FACTS: The first contract to officially bring Starshield capabilities to Ukraine was signed between the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) and SpaceX in June 2023. (It’s literally on Wikipedia and in numerous publicly available sources: —————————————————- FULL EXCHANGE: JOURNALIST: On Starshield, what’s going on? Because Elon Musk said it’s up to the president. SECRETARY MARCO RUBIO: Well, with Starshield or Starlink? JOURNALIST: Well, just both. SECRETARY MARCO RUBIO: Well, yeah, I know it’s confusing. So Starlink is a commercial product, okay? And so it’s regulated and handled as a commercial product. Starshield is a defense product, a military product. And as I said, I mean, that is something that we have, the United States military uses. It’s not, at this moment, available to Ukraine, and that’s under conversation. I mean, it’s under discussion right now how they would want to use it. JOURNALIST: No, but did the U.S. have anything to do with it not working in Ukraine at the moment? Zelenskyy said it was deliberate. SECRETARY MARCO RUBIO: No. Well, I don’t know what Zelenskyy said. I’m not sure Zelenskyy knows what he’s talking about, but it wasn’t deliberate. We had nothing to do with it. The United States, nobody ordered that Starlink speed be slowed down. It sort of happened. But my understanding is it’s been restored. It’s back to where it was before. JOURNALIST: That’s Starlink, though. They were using Starlink for their drones. Has Starshield been restored? SECRETARY MARCO RUBIO: Starshield is a totally different product. Starshield is… No, no. Starshield is a contract with the U.S. military. It has nothing to do with Ukraine. I know Ukraine wants access to Starshield. They do not have Starshield now. They’ve asked for access to it in order to conduct deep strikes inside of russia. They do not have access to it at this moment. Those are two different products. JOURNALIST: But do you have a theory as to why, obviously, Ukraine has reported disruptions? SECRETARY MARCO RUBIO: Yeah, I don’t know what their theory is, but it has nothing to do with the White House. I saw a report on that the other day. It’s just categorically false. No one at the White House ordered anyone to slow down internet or slow down speed so that certain drones couldn’t use it. But my understanding is it’s back up and running. That’s what I read. You know, that’s what we heard two days ago.

‼️ ZELENSKYY: Today, F-16 fighter jets shoot down 55-60% of all intercepted jet-powered Shahed drones because Ukraine cannot rely on Starlink. “First, regarding the interception of reactive 'Shaheds.' We've been using our aviation very successfully. Today, there's an incoming supply of ammunition for the F-16, 20-millimeter rounds. I had meetings, there were discussions at our Ministry of Defense, and right now we're receiving the appropriate quantity, and it's very, very substantial. So right now we have it. Today, Ukrainian POWs are forced to speak russian as part of their abuse in captivity. Their families are forbidden from writing letters to them in Ukrainian. For Ukrainians in captivity, their language is one of the last forms of freedom and identity they still have, and they will be brutally beaten for speaking it or even singing a Ukrainian song. ‼️A very interesting moment in the video released by the Kremlin showing negotiations between Putin, Ushakov, Witkoff, and Kushner. Putin personally says the so-called ceasefire supposedly started at midnight today, not on Sep. 6, which means it had already been violated by russia multiple times. Even more interestingly, Witkoff thanks Putin for securing a 3-day ceasefire, while Putin openly tells him that the 3-day ceasefire was Ukraine’s proposal and that russia never agreed to it. DIRECT SPEECH: WITKOFF: I wanna thank you for endorsing the no shoot policy in Kyiv and in Moscow for these three days that allowed us to be able to come here in a safe manner. PUTIN: We received this proposal through official channels, through the intelligence services, and through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. To cease strikes on Kyiv. I gave the appropriate order, and as of 00:00 today, no strikes on Kyiv have been carried out. I would like to note that the Ukrainian side has also significantly reduced strikes on the territory of the russian federation, by an order of magnitude, including on Moscow. ‼️Something very important is happening on the Mariupol direction. ZELENSKYY: A Ukrainian soldier from Mariupol gave me this chevron, with a clear desire for Ukraine to return to Mariupol and to all of its territory. And we really, really want it to be so. This statement from Zelenskyy is especially symbolic, as Ukraine’s mid-range strike campaign is causing havoc to multiple critical Russian supply routes deep behind the front in southern Ukraine this month. Numerous Russian military transports have been hit on the E105, M14, and H20 highways connecting Rostov to Crimea, which is effectively disrupting supply lines to Mariupol and cutting off logistics to the area. "Dear Rivne region! Today I was here, with our soldiers, I awarded, our guys. Wounded soldiers who are recovering here. One of them from Mariupol, Maksym, gave me a chevron. Here is this chevron. I’d like to have even more, to be honest, but so much was given to Ukraine under Biden - numbers nobody’s ever seen before. We have a lot of ammunition, different types. You know, Biden gave a lot to Ukraine, and so we're building that up, but we have a lot. We have a lot of the mid-level stuff too, I mean, more than we could ever use, no matter what. But we have a lot. I'd like to have more, to be honest, but so much was given to Ukraine by Biden. When I left, the cupboards were full. When I came here with Obama, he didn't buy ammunition. We had very little, and I got it built. Now, as soon as I left, they gave a lot of it to Ukraine. I mean, numbers that nobody's ever seen before. So we're building it very rapidly. Plants are being built a lot of equipment's being built. The Patriots in particular are being built. The THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) system is going up. We have a lot. Every one of our contractors is building 4 to 5 plants right now. And we're in very good shape. But, for some of the more sophisticated stuff, we'd certainly like to have more. Biden gave a lot of it away.

On Sat evening, Dec. 27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his negotiating team arrived in Miami, Florida, before traveling to Mar-a-Lago to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump. They were greeted by Ukraine’s Ambassador, Olga Stefanishyna, her deputy Denys Sienik, and Colonel Andrii Melnyk. The meeting is scheduled for 1:00 PM EST / 20:00 Kyiv time. Journalists are expected to be escorted to the location at 11:00 AM EST / 18:00 Kyiv time. Both Ukrainian and American media will be covering the event. Media coverage will follow the traditional format: journalists will cover the opening remarks at the beginning and possibly a joint press conference at the end. If there is no joint press conference between the two leaders after the meeting, President Zelenskyy will still hold a separate conversation with journalists at his hotel.
