I was incredibly proud to speak Bethany Rae Fields' name at Prime Minister’s questions today in Parliament. Bethany was murdered outside her workplace in 2019 by her ex-partner. Bethany approached the police multiple times before her murder and this brutal killing should never have happened. Her Mum, Pauline, and her entire family, show incredible strength as they campaign to create a lasting legacy in her name. Pauline's campaign aims for Bethany’s initials BRF—"Believe, React, Fast"—to become a standard approach for authorities in handling stalking and abuse cases, shaping related policy, legislation, and guidance. I’m proud to back her campaign and I was delighted to sit down with Pauline and the Minister for Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girl, Jess Phillips, to discuss this heartbreaking case. As the Prime Minister said in response to my question today, the Government is committed to halving violence against women and girls. I’m encouraged by new steps to improve support for victims, including embedding domestic abuse experts in 999 control rooms. There’s more to do, and I look forward to continued government reforms on this critical issue.

Yesterday, I delivered my first speech in Parliament, known as a Maiden Speech. ❤️ I expressed my pride in representing Leeds North West—a region rich in history, vibrant communities, and a strong Yorkshire spirit. 🎖️ I highlighted Leeds North West's incredible legacy, from historic landmarks like Otley Chevin to thriving businesses such as Abraham Moons and EMIS, all contributing to both local and national success. 🎡 I celebrated our community events, including the Guiseley Festival, Yeadon Carnival, and Rawdon Summer Gala, which showcase the strength of our Yorkshire pride and community spirit. 🎉 I honoured the amazing people who make Leeds North West special, including our young students, local groups like Horsforth Shed and Otley 2030, and Brian Firth, the founder of Public Access Defibrillators UK. 🌱 I emphasised my determination to tackle the local issues my constituents have raised with me, whether it’s addressing climate change, improving mental health, or supporting our local businesses—all aimed at creating a greener, healthier future. 👂 Finally, I promised to listen, learn, and act—committed to championing Yorkshire’s values and delivering for our community with joy and determination.
