A Japanese expression you often hear in Vtuber streams and their chats that non-Japanese speakers probably aren’t familiar with is なんて? (Nante?). I’ve seen it translated as “なんで? (Nande?) Why?” before, but in context, it actually means “What did you just say?” and is used when someone misspeaks. The full phrase is “なんて言った? (Nante itta?)”, but the rest of the phrase is usually omitted. When you just say なんて? (Nante?), it basically means “What did you just say?”
