Aerial views from different parts of Nairobi show the scale of destruction caused by the floods. Homes, businesses and infrastructure have been affected, disrupting livelihoods across several areas. As the rains continue, we urge the public to remain vigilant, avoid riverbanks and flood-prone areas and plan travel carefully even for short distances. This is the situation in Elwak. Homes submerged, lives disrupted—this is the reality. 26,011 families in parts of the North Eastern region (Wajir, Garissa and Mandera) are now grappling with the harsh impact of floods, leaving 13,473 displaced. Kenya Red Cross teams are on the ground responding, attending to the immediate needs of those affected including provision of shelter, essential non-food items and water, sanitation & hygiene services.

Mai Mahiu Floods Tragedy Update: 76 people are reported missing at our tracing desk. 110 have been rescued. Approximately 250 people are being hosted at Ngeya Girls Secondary School, where they were provided with essential items, courtesy of the National and County Government of Nakuru and partners. The Kenya Red Cross continues its search, rescue, and retrieval efforts, along with providing psychosocial support services to the affected families. This drone footage was captured by our International Centre for Humanitarian Affairs team in partnership with Kenya Flying Labs.

Moi Girls Fire Incident Update: The situation has been contained and all students are accounted for. Kenya Red Cross will provide 200 mattresses, 400 blankets and 200 dignity kits tonight. Our counseling team will be offering Psychosocial Support Services to the affected.

This #WorldFoodDay, drought has left 17 counties in Kenya struggling to feed their families. Through the #ZeroHunger Campaign, Kenya Red Cross, with support from partners such as the IFRC and British Red Cross 🧡, is helping communities rebuild their livelihoods, restore food security and strengthen resilience against climate shocks. But as the drought deepens, more support is still needed to ensure families can grow, earn and eat with dignity.

Today is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. This year's theme is #KeepingHumanityAlive and we have been doing just that. Since the wake of the March-May rains, 57,202 households have been affected, with over 47,000 households displaced. With support from the National and County Government, and partners, the Kenya Red Cross continues to be actively engaged in life-saving interventions, distribution of food and non-food items, and health outreaches, among other critical interventions. #WorldRedCrossDay
