I can't stop thinking about the scene where Leonidas wishes Ephialtes a long life, and Ephialtes reacts with despair. Viewers often interpret Leonidas's words as an insult. It was not; he meant them genuinely; he was recognizing Ephialtes as a man. What commenters miss is the confusion that briefly flashes on Leonidas's face after he sees Ephialtes's reaction. This creates a completely different interpretation. Leonidas was not insulting Ephialtes. His confusion shows that he thought of Ephialtes's actions as instrumental, for personal gain. But the true cause of Ephialtes's betrayal--his resentment--is something he cannot relate to. It is beyond his comprehension. Ephialtes was offered a role with the Spartan army. Tending to the wounded. Helping with supplies. But because he physically cannot participate as an equal within the Spartan ranks and is therefore refused that role, he rebels. But his rebellion is not against Leonidas. It is a rebellion against reality itself. It is a rebellion against the gods. Ephialtes was demanding a recognition that was physically impossible, given the sort of being that he was. And in response, he decides to betray and destroy everything that is good. Leonidas cannot comprehend that. It is so outside of his moral frame that it is the one thing about the unfolding events that he never understands before his death. It shows the purity of Leonidas's heart, the nobility that he takes with him to his death. This film is mythic. It is deeper than most people appreciate. When it was released, it was widely hated by liberal reviewers. The reasons for this are obvious. They are Ephialtes.

August 11, 2020 21-year-old Australian mother of three is choked and arrested for not wearing a mask. She had been to the doctor earlier and had a mask exemption. She was charged with assaulting a police officer. Masks have minimal effect at preventing COVID-19.

During the pandemic, Australians were beaten, sprayed, shot with rubber bullets, and arrested for not wearing masks, for protesting, and even for being members of the press. Despite its draconian policies, Australians had more excess deaths than Sweden, which did not lock down.

Today on CNN, after devastating study citations from the interviewer showing that masks don't work, Fauci responded: "but masks work on an individual level". But this is nonsense. Here's why. To do science on masks, you have a masked group and an unmasked group. You compare the rate of infection in each group. This is called a randomized trial. This is how science is done. If the rate of infection is the same, then masks don't work. This was what the studies on masks showed. No difference. Now, there is simply no such thing as scientific studies showing that "masks work at the individual level". Fauci either doesn't understand how science works or he is lying and making things up. It really is that simple. Fauci is saying gobbledygook in order to keep the idea of masks alive. It's incredibly shameful for Fauci to abuse science in this way. But it's par for the course in the way he has communicated science throughout the entire pandemic. Sad.

July 24, 2021 An Australian man was sitting outside on a park bench without a mask when he was approached by police. He was told he was "not in a public place with a reasonable excuse." He was wrestled to the ground, arrested, and charged with "assaulting a police officer". Australia's pandemic policies were based on pseudoscience. Sweden, which did not lock down and did not have mask mandates, had a lower excess death rate than almost every country in the world, including Australia. The suffering inflicted by these authoritarian policies produced no benefit to health and probably harmed it.

In 2020, a woman was tased, arrested, and forcibly removed at a high school football game for not wearing a mask. CDC exaggerated and lied about the science of masking, as Congressional reports are now showing. The CDC called it science, but it wasn't. It was evil.

I said that early ventilation in NYC during the pandemic killed many people. Ryan Marino is on BlueSky accused me of spreading conspiracy theories. Craig Spencer MD MPH denied it flatly. His tweet went viral with wild praise. Countless others said I should never have a career in medicine. Hundreds if not thousands. Many of them, somehow, are actual doctors. Yet here is Fauci saying the same exact thing as I did. The ignorance, intolerance, and dogmatism of #medtwitter made the pandemic so much worse. It led to censorship and terrible decision-making. And yes, it was responsible for the deaths of a lot of people. #medtwitter, you should be ashamed. Your relentless partisanship, defensiveness, and lack of accountability or remorse has turned millions of Americans away from public health and destroyed their trust in doctors and in medicine. Patients will refuse to comply with beneficial evidence-based therapies for decades to come after Covid. The rotten fruits of your arrogance and incompetence will destroy the lives of countless people who you took an oath to serve. You failed the public health and all of our patients with your horrific tribal self-serving dishonest behavior. Earning trust back means publicly acknowledging and coming to terms with what happened during the pandemic, not with denying it.
