BREAKING: ‘If Kabul is attacked the response will be in Islamabad’ said Mullah Yaqoob, Defence Minister of Afghanistan, adding that “the demand [by Pakistan] for us to label the TTP a terrorist organisation is based on ‘passionate imagination’ Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, the acting minister of the Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan, has warned that any attack on Kabul would be met with retaliation against Islamabad, adding that Afghanistan is prepared for a prolonged conflict if necessary. Speaking in an interview with Tolo News, Mujahid claimed Afghan forces have inflicted significant losses on Pakistan, in response to the death of a single Afghan civilian. He stressed that Afghanistan does not seek war but would continue fighting if the conflict persists. “If they extend the war for ten years, we are ready to fight for ten years as well. We have no fear,” he said. Mujahid added that the Afghan government and people do not want war, but said tensions largely stem from disputes over the Durand Line. He also rejected labeling Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan as a terrorist group, saying such claims are “imaginary and unrealistic,” and describing it as a baseless demands that Pakistan is making from Afghanistan.

ALERT: Taliban Confirm Detention of Two Americans For First Time, Most Likely Including Afghan-American Mahmood Shah Habibi The Taliban have, for the first time, officially confirmed that two American citizens are being held in Afghanistan, most likely including Afghan-American businessman Mahmood Shah Habibi. Speaking to TOLOnews, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said: “Two Americans are still in detention in Afghanistan. They were arrested for violating Afghan law. There are ways to resolve such issues, and in my view, the matter is not very serious. It is possible that their cases will be resolved soon. Their detention is legal, and their cases are in the courts. They had legal files, and we hope the issue will be resolved.” According to U.S. officials, one of the detainees is Dennis Coyle, an American academic and researcher who traveled to Afghanistan in 2025. Details about his detention remain limited, but he is reportedly under Afghan custody. The second, Mahmood Shah Habibi, is an Afghan-American businessman and former head of the civil aviation authority under the previous Afghan government. He disappeared in Kabul in 2022, and U.S. authorities believe he may be held by Afghan officials, although the Taliban have previously denied having him in custody. The Taliban’s confirmation comes as the U.S. Department of State has recently designated Afghanistan as a country supporting illegal detentions, highlighting rising tensions over the treatment of foreign nationals in the country. ALERT: Taliban Supreme Leader Warns Pakistan, Says Threats Will Not Deter Them The supreme leader of the Taliban, Hibatullah Akhundzada, addressed thousands of worshippers during Eid al-Fitr prayers at the Eidgah in Kandahar, where he made rare remarks touching on tensions with Pakistan. In what appeared to be an indirect reference to the ongoing conflict, Akhundzada said they would not be intimidated by airstrikes or artillery fire, stressing that such pressure would not alter their position. He added that if fear of military force had influenced them, they would have already been defeated during the war with NATO and Western forces. He also acknowledged public concerns about the direction of the government, stating that citizens have the right to question leadership decisions. Additionally, he criticized traders accused of hoarding goods, calling the practice sinful and urging that those responsible should face punishment. This marks the first time the Taliban leader has publicly alluded to the current tensions with Pakistan. Akhunzada appeared on the minaret of the mosque in Kandahar to deliver his Eid sermon.
