Hon Chairperson Each year, more than 337,000 learners achieve a Bachelor’s pass, yet there are only around 202,000 university spaces available. That is a slammed door in the face of over 130 000 deserving students. And for those who do make it through that door, many find themselves with nowhere to sleep. The student housing backlog now exceeds 500,000 beds. At the start of every academic year, we see students sleeping in hallways, on floors, and even on the streets. 🚨MUST WATCH 🚨 Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean McPherson has failed to turn South Africa into a construction site 🏗️ In Quarter 1 of 2026, we saw the second largest contraction under the minister’s watch a total 114,000 jobs lost. A third of all jobs lost in the country. This means 10 000 construction workers lost their jobs each week between January and March. This is an industry going backwards under a Minister more focused on branding himself and taking his partner on international trips to Brazil and UK at taxpayer expense. The Minister has clearly failed economically, and now he stands condemned ethically as well. For these reasons ActionSA will not support this budget. #ActionSAinParliament #7thAdministration #LetsFixSouthAfrica 💚🇿🇦
