PRESS RELEASE FROM KUKI WOMENS' FORUM DELHI&NCR DEMAND FOR HOME MINISTER SHRI AMIT SHAH TO ACT SWIFTLY IN THE FACE OF ESCALATING ATTACKS ON KUKI-ZO COMMUNITY We the Kuki Women’s Forum Delhi & NCR, a staunch advocate for peace and security, is appalled by the relentless attacks on our community despite the recent visit and promises made by the Home Minister. The burning of houses and continued aggression by the radical Meitei Militant groups supported by the state forces have reached unprecedented levels, leaving our Kuki-Zo brethren vulnerable and in desperate need of protection especially around Sugnu. Despite the Home Minister's reassurances, the radical Meitei groups relentless acts of violence and arson have not only persisted but escalated in Kuki-Zo Tribal villages in the said area causing fear and anguish even as this press statement is released. Innocent lives were lost, homes reduced to ashes, and families have been displaced even after one month since the violence first started. This is a clear violation of trust and a direct assault on the ideals of peace and stability that our nation upholds. Efforts of our state government have repeatedly shown to be insufficient in ensuring the safety of our people as the police itself is alleged to be biased. Mr. Pramot Singh, the patriarch of the Meitei extremist, radical youth grouping called Meitei Leepun has openly challenged both the Govt. of India and Govt. of Manipur. The extremist leader has assertively pointed out that the 3rd May mayhem that has hitherto not been contained is merely 'a tip of the iceberg' or a 'spark' of the impending doom to follow. He stated that Kangpokpi (Kanggui, in local parlance), a Kuki dominated district, some 15 kms away from Imphal will be wiped out as and when the so-called Salai Taret (infamous Seven Clans of Meiteis) becomes united as one. The atrocity meted out by it (Unified Meitei Clans) will be a force beyond the containing capabilities of the GoI and the State Government combined.His statement is implicit and amounts to waging war against the Indian State. His assertion is a warning call from the Meiteis that cannot be overlooked any longer. The Centre under IPC 124A must declare a sedition charge(s) against him and the organisation. The Kuki-Zo people call on Indian government to act as swift as possible to contain this imminent bloodbath. #ManipurViolence #ManipurTribals
