People carrying torches on the streets for drinking water in Uttarakhand. That alone says everything. Massive protest erupts in Hinsariyakhal, Devprayag after months of severe water shortage, with angry villagers warning that if even basic necessities are not ensured, the agitation will intensify further.

Amid all the noise online, this heartwarming video from Kasar Devi near Almora stands out for the right reasons. A tourist from London was seen collecting plastic and garbage scattered along the trail instead of ignoring it like most people do. Sometimes outsiders end up respecting the mountains more than those living around them. Uttarakhand is not just a tourist destination. It is Devbhoomi, and keeping it clean is everyone’s responsibility.

In Aretha village, Chamoli, 34-year-old Gammoti Devi had to be carried for kilometers on a dandi-kandi while in labor because there is still no road access to her village. While advertisements celebrate development, the real test is whether a pregnant woman can reach a hospital safely and on time. Gammoti Devi’s journey is a stark reminder that for many in Uttarakhand, the gap between the narrative and ground reality still exists.

#Haldwani #Uttarakhand #RoadSafety

When the brakes of a bus travelling from Dharchula towards Tanakpur reportedly failed near Lohaghat, driver Beni Ram had seconds to make a decision. Faced with the possibility of a catastrophic crash, he deliberately steered the bus into a roadside wall, saving the lives of all 34 passengers on board. But in doing so, he lost his own life. As the bus struck the wall, the driver’s side door reportedly opened, throwing him out before the rear wheel ran over him. Today, 34 families are safe because one man chose duty over self-preservation. And while Uttarakhand mourns a brave driver, difficult questions also need to be asked. Far too often, it is drivers who are forced to become heroes because of the condition of buses, roads and transport infrastructure. Video Credit: Rohit Singh Fartyal

Everywhere we’re digging into the mountains, they’re now collapsing and doing so with full “interest.” This video is from an under-construction petrol pump site in Paithani, where a large chunk of the hillside gave way during heavy rains. Nature is responding. Time to rethink what we’re doing. #Uttarakhand #UttarakhandNews

This video now going viral on social media is from the Phato Safari Zone near Corbett, Ramnagar. It shows safari jeeps chasing a tiger, breaking speed limits and getting dangerously close just for a sighting. What looks like “thrill” on camera is actually stress for the animal and a serious risk for everyone involved. After the video surfaced, the Terai West Forest Division took strict action. Two jeeps, their drivers Amjad and Shamshad, and nature guides Ashish and Raj have been banned indefinitely. The incident happened on January 13, 2026. Wildlife safaris are meant to observe, not chase. A tiger running for its life is not entertainment. It’s a reminder that rules exist to protect animals, forests, and people alike.

Haridwar Police Uttarakhand Uttarakhand Police

Festivals like the Raulane Mela are among the last living traditions that have stayed alive in the Himalayas for generations. In places like Kinnaur, these celebrations are not just rituals. They are a bond between people, their mountains and the spirits they believe protect their lives. In the hills, people always take the name of their local gods first. These deities are part of their daily life. They are the ones they call upon before any other god. This faith comes from the heart and from the land they live on. The Raulane Mela reminds us of this deep connection. Men dress up, dance and carry forward a tradition that their ancestors kept alive. They honor the Saunie, the protective spirits of the meadows. They pray for good times, safety and harmony. And the whole village comes together to send these spirits back to their homes in the high mountains. These traditions are not just festivals. They are identity, memory, and the soul of the people who live in these valleys. They hold stories that are older than we can imagine. And that is why they must be protected. If such traditions disappear, a part of the Himalayas will disappear with them.

A male tiger has been found dead in the Kaladhungi Range of Ramnagar Forest Division, causing concern among forest officials. The carcass was spotted by staff at the Forest Corporation Depot in Chakluwa Beat, Compartment 2C, on Tuesday. What a cruel joke this has become for the people of Uttarakhand. We have all seen the condition of government schools. During the monsoon, children risk their lives crossing broken roads and dangerous rivers just to attend classes. And now it has gone even further. Children are not safe from leopards and bears. Wild animals are entering school areas. Children are no longer just struggling to study. They are running for their lives inside and around schools. Education cannot come at the cost of survival. This is not resilience. This is neglect being normalised.
