Spent a few hours in #RamNavami processions outside Mumbai's International Airport: *Slogans like 'Aurangzeb Ki Kabr Khudegi, Maa Ch*degi, Maa Ch*degi'. *Songs with words: Bharat Mein Jo Desh Drohi Hai, Unki Ma Ka Bh*sda. *Songs that threaten brutal violence against Muslims.

When I first heard Hindutva pop music in 2018, it was a firmly rural phenomenon. Could barely find anyone in urban areas who knew of such music. 8 years on, Gen Zs in Mumbai, are singing along and grooving to it. This is last night, at a Ram Navami procession in Mumbai.

New Work: Before the polls, PM Modi made a big annoucement--he had been silently working on a development roadmap and had consulted more than 15 lakh people. I decided to file RTIs with the Prime Minister's Office to know more about these consultations. After multiple attempts, here is what I found: 🚨

Many have innocently interpreted the 2024 results to be a victory "over hate" and insisted that communalism "was defeated". They might be deeply mistaken. My take: Hate is deeply entrenched now, and an electoral victory or a loss is not going to drive it away. People's priorities (inflation, employment) might mean those issues took precedence, but that isn't going to undo the years of slow radicalisation they have suffered. An excerpt from my talk last week at a PUCL panel on dissecting the elections, with Anand Patwardhan, Sambhaji Bhagat, Lara Jesani and Rajni Bakshi.

Every few minutes, a guy would come on and galvanise the crowds with slogans like these: *Jisko chahiye Afzal Khan, usko bhejo Pakistan. *Aurangzeb ki kabr khudegi, Ma Ch*degi, Ma Ch*degi. The police was present all along. But in the hours I spent, I saw no effort to restrain.

LATEST: From calling Muslims 'green pigs/green snakes', to threatening them with brutal violence and asking crowds to attack them, demolish mosques--for 2 years, BJP MLA Nitesh Rane has been delivering hate speeches in Maharashtra. He has 20 FIRs for his hate speeches. Yet, he has now been made a cabinet minister in the Maha govt. My latest work for Article 14 (link below) But first, a sample of his speeches--wanting to throw pork before mosques.

For those outside Bihar, struggling to make sense of the results, a clip from my conversation on The Wire with Seema Chishti. Development indices might reflect little change, but Biharis were comparing Bihar to Bihar, not to any place else. That is why they back Nitish Kumar.
