To kick off #KwitaIzina20, rangers, trackers, and veterinary experts working in Volcanoes Park had the honour of giving names to newborn gorillas: 🦍 Alliance Umwizerwa named a baby born into the Hirwa family 'Mushumbamwiza', meaning Good Shepherd. The name reflects the dedication of park staff in protecting the gentle giants every day. 🦍 Dr. Gaspard Nzayisenga named a baby from the Matsiko Cyuzozo family 'Unguka', meaning Gain, honouring the infant as a new addition to the family. 🦍 Dieudonné Gato chose the name 'Rufatiro' for another baby in the Matsiko Cyuzozo family. The name translates to Foundation, symbolising sustainable tourism as a pillar of Rwanda's economic development. 🦍 Théogène Bimenyimana named a newborn in the Mutobo family 'Amahitamo', meaning Choice. The name reflects Rwanda's determination to protect the environment and wildlife. 🦍 Brenda Umutoni chose the name 'Tsinda', meaning Win, for a baby in the Hirwa family. The name celebrates conservation successes achieved through close collaboration with surrounding communities. 🦍 Léonard Nsengiyumva named a newborn in the Mutobo family 'Atete', meaning Tenderness. The name reflects the mother Akariza's affection and warmth. 🦍 Jean Marie Vianney Zirimwabagabo chose the name 'Umutoni' for a baby in the Kwitonda family. The name translates to Favourite. 🦍 Naume Mukabarisa named a baby in the Kwisanga family 'Kwihangana', meaning Patience, highlighting the perseverance of park staff in protecting mountain gorillas.
