Russian brutality in Georgia isn't new. In just a few days in September 1993, Russian-backed separatists in Georgia's Abkhazia region shot down or destroyed five civilian airliners near Sukhumi, Georgia. Between September 20 and 23, passenger aircraft belonging to Transair Georgia and Orbi Georgian Airways were struck by surface-to-air missiles or bombarded on the ground. One Tu-154 was hit on approach to the airport — 108 civilians were killed, including many children. A Tu-134 was downed over the Black Sea. Others were destroyed as passengers were boarding. More than 130 people died in those few days — families, children, airline crews. These were not military targets, but civilian airliners marked with Georgian flags. The world barely remembers it, but this was one of Russia’s first experiments in hybrid terror: backing “separatists,” providing the weapons, and denying responsibility. Three decades later, the same playbook — the same disregard for human life — is still being used against Ukraine.

The epidemic of wild boars continues to expand in Moscow, with estimated population now at 500 to 650. The dangerous animals roam the yards of residential buildings and can attack people at any moment. According to Russian outlet Mash, the population grows, with boars searching for new territories while moving out of the forest closer to people and food sources. Hunting and culling pressure make them feel safer near the city. Currently, the most dangerous period is the rut. Males become aggressive, run at speeds of up to 40 km/h, and can cause serious injuries. Residents are advised to stay away from the animals and immediately report any sightings of wild boars to the authorities.
