Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has responded to supporters urging him to contest the presidency in 2027. He stated that although he has been in politics for approximately 12 years, becoming president requires strong structures, broad support, and close collaboration with experienced leaders who understand governance. Sifuna cautioned against being carried away by large crowds, noting that popularity alone does not translate into votes and that winning a presidential election involves much more than optics. He added that the Linda Mwananchi team should focus first on building strength and, if necessary, support whichever presidential candidate is best placed to defeat President William Ruto in 2027. If the Linda Mwananchi movement takes that direction, it could open the possibility of Sifuna serving as the opposition flag bearer, potentially sharing the ticket with figures like Matiang’i, Kalonzo, Gachagua or Karua as his running mate.
