There was a citizen in the audience yesterday who understood what the conversation should be about during the Town Hall and what the right question to Barram. She was told she was rude, she humbly apologized just so that she could go ahead and speak about 'the bread and butter' issue, especially how even locally-produced pepper is expensive in the market. See how she was being rushed at and profiled just for speaking about what is affecting ordinary people. This isn't the democracy we will want to lecture those students at Harvard about. I wonder why the President couldn't protect that lady who was just trying to let him know how she feels. Watch out for the "Citizens Town Hall" where no one will try to take a microphone from you because you have a serious question to ask. We are inspired by a citizen like this lady who couldn't be intimidated. She speaks truth to power even when they visibly try to stop her through name-calling, intimidation, fading out the sound, and grabbing the microphone from her. Presidents aren't God's, stop hero-worshipping them. There are things you can't make up. The next national elections in Sierra Leone will be held in 2028, according to Barram The president, who was speaking at a ceremony in Bo, accused some politicians of propagating false information that another election would be held in the country and that they would be coming out in June. He said the country belongs to everyone, and a group of people will not decide to cause confusion and make the lives of others miserable. "We came through ballots, and anyone who comes with a bullet, you will be sent back with a bullet," he warned. Some members of the main opposition All People's Congress have been claiming that the Tripartite Committee was set up to ensure that a rerun of June 2023 is held, a claim the U.S Ambassador, Bryan Hunt has denied on public radio as one of the initiators of the Committee that was set up following concerns on the conduct of the June 2023 elections. The Tripartite Committee on Electoral Systems and Management Bodies Review which comprises the opposition APC, the ruling SLPP, and the government is expected to complete its work and present a report to President Bio next month. #FreetownStories

Even our learned friends, some of the most brilliant citizens, once a highly respected and dignified profession, couldn't conduct their affairs peacefully. I was wrong to think that the peaceful campaign would also be shown during the elections. But again, when the State is so interested in who becomes the next President we will not have a free and fair process. I said earlier today how those who were victims are now perfecting what they complained about. Shamefully, ours is now a country that couldn't conduct any peaceful, transparent, free, and fair elections, from national to professional organizations. This is how low we've come as a people. We should all be worried and concerned about the future of our country. Maybe, the Bar Association will also end up with Dialogue and a Tripartite Committee. #FreetownStories

With the help of a colleague in Kabala, I have verified this video, and it's indeed from somewhere in Falaba District. I spoke to a senior health official at the Kabala Government Hospital who confirmed that a 37-year-old woman who arrived at the hospital on Wednesday 10th April 2024 at around 4am was referred to them from a Peripheral Health Unit where she arrived on a Hammock. She had some complications after home delivery was attempted but was able to deliver the baby who died a few hours before she arrived at the hospital. She is however in stable condition and will be discharged later. The person I spoke to confirmed that they almost always have similar cases with pregnant women who arrive late at the hospital. Now, in 2024 we are still having issues with providing ambulance services I am sure not only in Falaba but other parts of the country. I shared my experience of how I saw people using Okada in Masiaka, in Freetown I have seen the same with emergencies. But our leaders, the ruling and political class flaunt new SUVs every year and we don't see anything wrong with that in a society where the citizens are still struggling to access basic health services. We can do better, we should do better and there's nothing wrong with demanding more from our government. That's part of the social contract we have with them as our elected officials. If our leaders don't struggle to access healthcare services in the country or can easily fly out, we the citizens shouldn't have to struggle either. Barram should ensure that those compatriots in Falaba like others in many other places don't trek miles to access basic healthcare. #FreetownStories

It looks like sadness descended on the Sierra Leone Bar Association yesterday in Kenema in an election presided over by Francis Ben Kaifala🇸🇱, the Anti-corruption Sierra Leone Commissioner. Our learned friends couldn't raise the Bar, it's been lowered and will be difficult to reclaim. We have a Constitutional Review process we are all looking forward to and those who should serve as our moral guarantors to legal issues can't conduct a proper election or interpret their laws. Hope you saw the wedding video yesterday evening between the Bar and the State. It's been captured. Here are some videos of what happened in Kenema to remind ourselves of events and happenings in Sierra Leone in the future. #FreetownStories

It is less than a week to the country’s 63rd Independence Anniversary, this is how we've transformed our city. Driving around and seeing videos on social media clearly shows how filthy Freetown is from the East, Central, and West. It looks like the much talked about Transform Freetown is more of a blueprint for Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE Aki-Sawyer to be traveling and presenting fancy ideas to other clean and growing cities than what she's doing back home. Please, Madam Mayor, stay home to clean up and beautify our city for God's sake. That's not too much to ask for. I am sure you always see those concrete boxes in the middle of Wilkinson Road up to Congo Cross. They've been there for too long with no value. Clear them up, please. If nar clean 🇸🇱 flag dem sef fix them for wi, the Privileged on X can donate 😎 #FreetownStories #SaloneX

Throw Back Thursday... MAADA BIO WRITES PRESIDENT KOROMA ON AUDIT REPORT "Dear Mr. President, For the past week, I have been following with dismay the events at home surrounding the publication of the Report of the Auditor-General on the Audit of the Management of the Ebola Funds covering the period from May to October 2014." - President Bio's letter to former President Koroma in February 2015 on the Report of the Auditor-General on the Audit of the Management of Ebola Funds. Barram went further to urge former President Koroma to give urgent consideration to recommendations of his Party, the Sierra Leone People's Party, on the report and requested that he consider setting up a Special Judicial Commission headed by a Chairman, preferably a Senior Judge from the United Kingdom appointed by the British Government which he said is vital to restore the country's national and international credibility. You can read more on the letter here: Please note that Lara Taylor-Pearce was the Auditor General who did this Audit Report cited by President Bio. The same Auditor General who did that revealing report in 2015 was suspended in 2021 for also doing another revealing audit report about receipts in the Office of the President. She went through a Tribunal, not with a Senior Judge from the United Kingdom or someone appointed by the British Government but by a retired Judge who was appointed by the President to serve as Chairman. While the Tribunal Report is still yet to be made public, sources say they have recommended that Parliament should vote for Lara's removal. Right before us, one of the most respected citizens and a professional of an institution that gave us hope when we had none about accountability is being destroyed for doing her job and we all sit and act like it's nothing and we don't care. Where are our moral guarantors and accountability advocates? Like we had a President who sacked his Vice President, one morning we will wake up to another abuse of the Supreme Executive Authority, and don't be surprised if you're told that your name and place of birth have been changed. SN: The video accompanying this text is from when President Bio received the Governance Transition Team Report in 2018. Hopefully, we will all be reminded someday of our actions and inaction. #FreetownStories #TruthTellers

An ECOWAS Security Mission is to be deployed in #SierraLeone to help stabilize the country following the failed attempted coup on Sunday, 26th November 2023. The deployment was instructed by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government at the 64th Summit that was attended by Barram in Abuja, Nigeria. #FreetownStories
