Australia needs an independent defence policy that makes us safer, not one that ties us closer to unhinged billionaires like Trump. We should not be locking ourselves deeper into US weapons systems and dependence on a country whose politics can shift overnight.

The CGT discount is the most unfair tax handout there is. It is exacerbating inequality and locking a generation out of home ownership. Enough is enough. No more tinkering around the edges of the housing crisis. Labor must scrap the CGT discount in the next budget.

Today I remember the 43 women killed by violence so far in 2023. We need to stop framing men who kill women as ‘good blokes’ who just snapped. Men must do far more to stamp out the sexism and misogyny that breeds inequality and violence.

If you want to help people buy a home, then Labor should work with the Greens to phase out negative gearing and the capital gains tax discount, and establish a government owned developer to build quality homes and sell them for cheap to first home buyers.
