8 May 1945 marked the end of the Second World War in Europe. However, for the Baltic states 🇱🇻🇱🇹🇪🇪 it did not bring freedom — occupation and violence continued. Soviet propaganda described the occupation as “liberation”. Russia continues these lies, distorts historical facts and seeks to downplay the consequences of the occupation for the Baltic states. 31 years ago, the last units of the Russian army left Latvia 🇱🇻 The withdrawal of the occupying forces, achieved under difficult circumstances, was a significant step in strengthening Latvia's independence. It allowed for the start of the long process of eliminating the remnants of occupation and accelerated our country's accession to NATO and the European Union 🇪🇺

Latvia 🇱🇻 is sending 1⃣0⃣0⃣ more drones to Ukraine 🇺🇦! This is a reminder to ourselves, our partners, and the world that support for Ukraine is critically important, and we shall not grow tired. Every centimeter of Ukraine we manage to protect is part of Ukraine’s and our collective victory. This morning, Parliamentary Secretary Dace Melbārde, Ukrainian Ambassador Anatolii Kutsevol, and the CEO of the Latvian charity Rūta Dimanta took part in the handover of drones provided by Latvia for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The project “Drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces” has so far raised EUR 127K. It was initiated by Foreign Minister Baiba Braže, in cooperation with UKR Embassy in LVA. 30 years ago, the withdrawal of Russian military from Latvia was completed. Their presence during occupation had been very extensive. After 26 months of talks, an obstacle in Latvia's return to free world was gone. This opened way for 🇱🇻's preparations for joining EU & NATO.
