Reality is he didn't fall low, he was always like this. He bailed on his daughter to be with the guy over and over throughout her life whilst ignoring her needs because he personally felt sad and repressed and that was all that mattered. He was the only victim of the story and was fighting back in his own head by doing what he wanted and not that he's 50% of the reason his daughter was miserable. Acting like he was the only victim in the world. Then after promising to be there for her, willingly went to be executed to protect that same guy over staying with her, ready to leave her in the same situation he knows is terrible and even after, he never tries to fight hard to get her back, to pursue a way she can live with him and he sets himself up to be more stable for his daughter. He just crashes at his boyfriends. And earlier, despite pushing to be with him, the moment Blitz needed him to actually stand next to him and defend their relationship in public, as he was always insecure about their dynamic. Instead when it came time, Stolas hid his face out of public embarrassment. He was always a selfish person, the eternal victim and being repressed by a b*tch wife doesn't purify him of his own terrible personality. He's constantly looking for reassurance but never giving it beyond lip service. And has to be directly pushed every time, by threats of death to those people just to actually be around his own daughter or admit he's with Blitz. And even then it's all about how good it makes him feel that they like him. He got to hide behind being a sad repressed victim like Jerry in Rick and Morty. And just like Jerry the minute he starts feeling himself he gets an unearned sense of arrogance.

Thinking about this again. What plagues so much of modern gaming is how they write and design like they're always in earshot of HR and have never had a human interaction. Its all so fake, a clean facade of surface level quips, small talk, acceptability and smoothed out politeness

Watched Tron Legacy for the millionth time and realized this is what the Star Wars sequel should have been like and how Luke should have been treat. It should have been a father son story. Jeff Bridges is how you do a powerful character who has given up fighting and rediscovers the drive through his son and makes the ultimate sacrifice for the future generation. And it does it without coming across spiteful or pointless. Whilst maintaining his presence in the world even when he's not there. He's even allowed to make the final sacrifice to save the world without taking anything away from the new characters. "You did all this, for him! why!?" "He's my son" What you can do when you write legacy characters without spite, subversion or a mystery box mindset.

I know people don't like it but it's also true that a lot of movies and game series were just cooler when they were basically blatant military recruitment ads. Now stuff like Call of Duty is just about sci fi PMC vs PMC. Even just the vibe of this era helped keep the military in focus and competent in Halo. After this era they just started slowly making it all about genetic chosen one stuff. Brutes taking down the Infinity in an opening cutscene is some bullsh*t to this day. Made Lasky and the UNSC suddenly look completely incompetent, the Infinity was cutting edge reclaimed Forerunning tech, it could slice through shielded capital ships but gets taken down by Brute ships from the Covenant war? get that bullsh*t outta here. Anyway what was I talking about? oh yeah transformers.

Now I know why a lot of studio's and their devs were up in arms complaining about BG3 "delivering too much" and setting "unrealistic expectations". Roleplay in your RPG? what do you think this is 2009? this is a safe comforting environment now, no bad thoughts or being a meanie.

"Gamer chuds would hate it if they found Amy was making Uncharted today" weird because it was only the chuds complaining that they got rid of her, the only ones who even reported on it at the time. Whilst everyone else was too busy felating the 'visionary' man who took her place.
