Labour-run Tameside Council turned away Rolls Royce who were looking to build SMRs in the borough. Most likely due to Manchester Labour’s policy of “nuclear free cities”. The average salary in Tameside is £27,904 - lowest in GM. The average nuclear job pays £50,000. Local people have been denied access to opportunities that would have transformed our local economy. Elon Musk is looking to start a new energy company in Manchester. He would always be welcome in Tameside under the Conservatives.

Tameside Council’s finances are in a real mess. £16m overspend, running down the reserves and what do Labour do? They take £10m from the staff pension pot like Robert Maxwell. The interim Chief Executive, Harry Catherall was brought in after Tameside Labour MPs forced the resignation of Cllr Ged Cooney and Chief Executive, Sandra Stewart. He used to be Chief Executive of Oldham Council where he built a £20m black hole in council finances. He’s done the same in Tameside. He’s now been politically appointed by Angela Rayner and Jim McMahon (Angela’s constituency covers Tameside and Jim’s in Oldham) as a Ministerial Envoy to Warrington Council which is in £1.9bn of debt. That’s Labour logic for you.
