Public Memorial Ceremony for Confucius in the Year of Yisi Held at Confucius' Birthplace, Qufu The Public Memorial Ceremony for Confucius in the Year of Yisi, a grand ritual to commemorate the birth anniversary of the ancient Chinese thinker and educator Confucius, was held at the Confucius Temple in Qufu, Confucius' hometown in Shandong province, drawing participants from home and abroad to pay tribute to the great sage. This year's 2026 China International Confucius Culture Festival will be held in Qufu from September 28 to October 7, with the theme of "Benevolence and Ritual for All, Harmony and Great Unity". The public memorial ceremony will be held right after the opening ceremony on the morning of September 28, following traditional ritual procedures that have been preserved for thousands of years, including opening the city gate, opening the temple gate, offering flower baskets, singing ritual music and dancing, and reading the memorial oration.
