Freedom Convoy legal update 🇨🇦⚖️ • Tamara Lich and Chris Barber were convicted of mischief for their lead roles in the 2022 Ottawa convoy. Barber was also convicted of counselling others to disobey a court order. • The trial judge imposed 18-month conditional sentences (house arrest/curfew), not prison. • The Crown originally sought 7 years in prison for Tamara Lich and 8 years for Chris Barber, and is appealing for harsher sentences. • Lich and Barber are also appealing their convictions. • The appeals are expected to be heard in Spring 2027. • A separate Ottawa class-action lawsuit was filed on February 4, 2022 and now seeks $290 million in damages, including: * 💰 $60 million for pain and suffering * 💼 $70 million for business losses * 💵 $150 million for lost wages * ⚖️ $10 million in punitive damages * Plus legal costs, interest, and forfeiture of certain convoy funds if the plaintiffs succeed. • The class action is still before the courts. It has not yet gone to trial or resulted in a damages award. The principal named defendants in the class action include: Tamara Lich Chris Barber Patrick King Benjamin Dichter James Bauder Brigitte Belton Daniel Bulford Tom Marazzo Along with several other individuals, the group Freedom 2022 Human Rights and Freedoms, and unnamed John and Jane Does. –——————————————————————————— If someone is serving a conditional sentence for helping paralyze Ottawa, costing the country a 3.9 billion loss. —then appearing at political-style events with MAGA foreign officials — while appeals and a $290M class action are still active — raises serious public-confidence questions.
