❌ Matt Law on why Chelsea did not decide to sign an emergency CM: They had at least two bids for Alex Scott turned down. They definitely had asked about Zubimendi, who obviously knows Alonso well from Arsenal earlier in the window, and Arsenal were just a straight no. And I know they've checked around on a couple of other Premier League ones, assessed them and decided, do you know what, we don't think they're actually at the level.

And that's not counting almost 500 minutes in the Club World Cup. Nick Verlaney ⭐️⭐️: International flights. I mean, that study was done about him last year and the amount of miles that he put on his body... your body can only do so much. It's a real, real risk for this season.

⚡️ Nizaar Kinsella on Chevarria: He's actually a player Alonso really wants and apparently he's absolutely amazing. people at Rayo are saying that anyway. He had a brilliant game against Xabi Alonso's Real Madrid last season in a 0-0 draw and he caused huge problems going that way and just defending amazing against Vinicius Jr. and all all their superstars and Mbappe. So yeah, it it feels like to Alonso, this feels like a certainty.

👀 CFC Central: Gusto completed 1/4 passes in that first half. If your gameplan is to be under sustained pressure, then you need to be able to recover 2nd balls, essentially win your duels & then feed your front three. We're still we're still lacking that solidity. If you're going to concede possession for about 60-65% of the time, your engine room has to be solid.

🤩 Ben Jacobs: Palestra is a top young talent that can play as a fullback or a wingback. He can go right or left. It's another option and a versatile fullback. And I can't stress enough how much Xabi Alonso loves a versatile fullback, somebody that is comfortable on the ball, that can bomb forwards, that can invert & play anywhere across the back line.
