Within Somerset House, among the world's leading designers and thinkers, Nigerian creativity stood with confidence, layered, intentional, and deeply expressive. Titled Hopes and Impediments, the pavilion drew from Lejja's ancient iron-working legacy in Enugu State and reimagined Nigeria's cultural identity through sound, material, and mapping. The Itsekiri story ran through the centre, present with dignity, purpose, and clarity. Allegra Ayida's Paddling into the Past brought soul to form. Her work with the Itsekiri cast iron paddle offered a compelling reflection on memory and place, showing how language, names, and cultural rhythm continue to shape identity. The experience was fully immersive, brought to life through artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and data visualisation. Art met code. Culture meets interface. And from that meeting, something unmistakably African emerged: intelligent, modern, and deeply human. This vision was led by Myles Igwebuike as curator and creator, and produced by Itohan Barlow, founder of Culture Lab Africa. Together, they shaped a powerful cultural statement that resonated far beyond the walls of the exhibition. I'd like to express my gratitude to Victoria Broackes, Angela Bourderye-Munoz, Fiyin Adesanya, Dr. Anino Emuwa, Alero Ogbemi-Barlow, and the Itsekiri guests whose presence gave the moment its weight. Tompolo initiated an assault on Itsekiri communities, executing a planned invasion of their lands, which he had outlined during his birthday party speech. The blueprint for War in Warri unfolds as he advances his campaign against the Itsekiri. We will retaliate if the government does not hold the perpetrators accountable. Federal Government contractor Thomas Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo, led an assault on the Itsekiri community of Kantu earlier today. His Ijaw group attacked our youths with sticks and machetes, and in a horrific act of violence, stripped our mothers and women naked, humiliating them in their own community. We previously warned that the government’s funding of Tompolo has enabled him to acquire more Iranian weapons, which he now uses to intimidate and assault our people. During the disarmament process at the end of the Warri war, we surrendered our weapons to the federal government with the understanding that they would ensure our safety from such threats. Yet, it appears the government is now enabling those responsible for past genocidal acts against our people to continue their aggression. I call on the federal government: if you remain silent, are you signaling that we should arm ourselves to protect against further Ijaw attacks? Our patience has limits, and we will defend ourselves if these assaults persist.
