In House of Lords I raised the issue of "think tanks" influencing politics, but unlike parties NOT disclosing their sometimes dodgy funding inc. from anonymous US based sources. The IEA & those based at Tufton Street do not declare their funding sources.

People are shocked when they find out that there is NO LIMIT on the size of donations that can be made to political parties. I have just asked the Minister in House of Lords to study this week’s reports from @transparencyInternational and Unlock Democracy and to accept the recommendation of the Committee for Standards in Public Life for a £10k cap on donations.

Just challenged Government in House of Lords to tackle loophole in party general election spending that would now allow a party to spend £35m in say 70 targets seats ie £0.5m per constituency to "buy an election". Democracy should not be for sale!

We should not allow political parties, leaders, and elections to be bought and sold. Nigel Farage cannot say that he has not been bought for £5m and what he is doing with the money. I told House of Lords that we need to put a cap on the maximum size of donations to parties.

There were loud cheers in the House of Lords yesterday for my mother in law Molly when I spoke about her being 110. The issue was about hospital patients being left on trolleys in corridors. This happened to her last year and I challenged the Minister about stopping this.

The Government is planning to "reform" local government by abolishing many elections & reducing the number of local councillors. What we really need is to make councils more representative of voters by using #ProportionalRepresentation to elect them and ending "one party states"

We need proper reform of UKHouseofLords, based on elections with PR. Abolishing hereditary peerages will move the House in a more proportional direction in terms of votes cast, but we really need to move to PR for all elections including our second chamber. #LordsReform
