#BREAKING Texas DPS Disrupts Two Major Smuggling Attempts, Recovers 40 Illegal Immigrants in Less Than 10 Days Near Laredo LAREDO – For the second time in less than 10 days, the Texas Department of Public Safety has recovered nearly two dozen illegal immigrants being concealed inside a truck tractor during an Operation Lone Star traffic stop in Webb Co. On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, just after 4:00 p.m., a Texas DPS Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a white Peterbilt truck tractor on IH-35 near mile marker 13 outside of Laredo. A search of the truck revealed 20 illegal immigrants concealed in the truck tractor's sleeping area. The driver, Antonio Brown, 47, a resident of Nevada, was charged with smuggling of persons and booked into the Webb Co. Jail. The 20 illegal immigrants from Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala were referred to the United States Border Patrol. DPS’ Criminal Investigations Division (CID) continues to investigate the case.

#VIDEO: DOZENS of illegal immigrants recovered from a burning trailer in South Texas. On June 4, 2026, Texas DPS Troopers responded to assist Border Patrol Agents in a vehicle pursuit involving a tractor trailer along Highway 281 near Falfurrias. During the pursuit, Troopers deployed a tire deflation device in attempt to stop the vehicle – but the driver continued to evade until the tractor trailer caught fire. Troopers and Agents immediately removed the driver and a passenger from the vehicle’s cab and placed them under arrest. At that time, the driver informed law enforcement of additional occupants inside the trailer. Troopers and Agents quickly unlocked the trailer and rescued 39 suspected illegal immigrants before the trailer became engulfed in flames. All subjects were medically screened for injuries prior to being taken into custody. This incident is a reminder of the dangerous lengths human smugglers will go to when engaging in this criminal activity, and DPS is proud to work with our federal partners, like #USBP, to stop them. #OperationLoneStar

Vietnam Nationals Among Group in Maverick Co. Smuggling Attempt 5/25/26: A human smuggler driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee led Texas DPS Troopers on a high-speed pursuit on US-277 in Maverick County. DPS Aircraft Operations provided air support as Troopers safely ended the pursuit with a PIT maneuver. The driver, Yoisdelvis Nunez Acosta of Cuba, fled into the brush but was quickly apprehended. Troopers also identified a red Ram 1500 scout vehicle driven by Alexander Rodriguez Acosta of Phoenix, AZ, involved in the smuggling operation. Both were arrested and charged with six counts of smuggling of persons. Six illegal immigrants — from Mexico and Vietnam — were referred to the U.S. Border Patrol. #NEW: DPS Uncovers Stash House, Captures Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrant Gang Member in Maverick Co. DEL RIO – The Texas Department of Public Safety - South Texas Region uncovered a stash house and captured a wanted criminal illegal immigrant gang member during Operation Lone Star in Maverick Co. last week. On May 29, 2026, just after 12:00 a.m., Texas DPS Troopers received information about a possible stash house operating out of a hotel in Eagle Pass. Troopers made contact with a female inside one of the rooms, who consented to a search after Troopers detected a strong odor of marijuana. Upon entering, Troopers discovered the room was being used as a stash house and located four illegal immigrants from Honduras hiding under blankets. Troopers identified two of the illegal immigrants as Joseph Angel Gusman, 21, and Daniel Castillo Dionisio, 21, both Rollin’ 30s Crips gang members with a history of illegal reentry and alien inadmissibility by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Further investigation also revealed Dionisio was wanted by the New Orleans Police Department on multiple felony warrants for armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm. He was arrested and booked into the Maverick Co. Jail. Gusman and the other two illegal immigrants were referred to Border Patrol. Two American citizens, Juella Monet Brown, 27, of Grandview, Mo., and Starr Ricki Drake, 26, of Euless, Texas, were both charged with operation of a stash house and booked into the Maverick Co. Jail. Smuggling Scheme Unraveled — Two Children Safely Recovered by Texas DPS Trooper 2/11/26: A Texas DPS Trooper stopped a black Cadillac XT5 on US-90 in Kinney County and uncovered a human smuggling attempt. During the stop, the driver was found smuggling four illegal immigrants: • One adult male from Honduras • One adult female from Belize • Two children, ages 6 and 8, from Belize Further investigation revealed the male from Honduras paid $10,000 to be smuggled into the U.S. and transported to Florida. The female and two children had been waiting at a stash house for transport to San Antonio. The driver, Georgina De Hoyos of San Antonio, was arrested and charged with four counts of human smuggling. Outstanding investigative work by our trooper — identifying the smuggling operation and ensuring the safe recovery of two young children. Operation Lone Star: Texas DPS Trooper Intercepts Special Interest Alien Smuggling Attempt NEW: On 1/30/26, just after 11:30 pm, a Texas DPS Trooper stopped a gray Toyota Camry on U.S. 277 in Maverick County and discovered the driver was smuggling four illegal immigrants. One was identified as a Special Interest Alien (SIA) from China, BeiBei Liu, 34, dressed in camouflage. The driver, Juan Alfonso Merlo Ibarra, 35, an illegal immigrant from Nicaragua, was arrested and charged with four counts of smuggling of persons and booked into the Maverick County Jail. The SIA from China and three illegal immigrants from Mexico, including a juvenile, were referred to U.S. Border Patrol. #OperationLoneStar #TexasDPS

NEW: TX DPS APPREHEND SPECIAL INTEREST IMMIGRANTS, ARREST 57 FOR CRIMINAL TRESPASS 10/11: Texas DPS Troopers apprehended a group of 165 illegal immigrants in Quemado, just outside of Eagle Pass. Among the group were 14 Special Interest Immigrants from Iran, Egypt, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Troopers made 57 arrests for criminal trespass. The arrests included illegal immigrants from Peru, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guatemala, and Ecuador. In addition, 29 unaccompanied children/minors, ages 10 - 17, were recovered. #OperationLoneStar

It is a stark reality and an untold truth that children are being smuggled, trafficked, & exploited. During the stop, the driver allowed several passengers to bail out before speeding away as troopers approached the vehicle. A high-speed pursuit ensued as additional occupants, including the driver, bailed out and attempted to flee on foot. Troopers immediately gave chase in an effort to apprehend those involved. The driver, Shyloh Rodriguez, of Crystal City, Texas, was arrested and charged with smuggling of persons and evading arrest. 🚨 Texas DPS Traffic Stop Leads to Human Smuggling Arrest 4/19/26 – In Starr Co., a Texas DPS Trooper stopped a Chevy pickup for a traffic violation. During the stop, it was discovered the driver was smuggling five illegal immigrants. The driver was arrested and charged federally by the U.S. Border Patrol. The five illegal immigrants were taken into Border Patrol custody. In the video, several of the illegal immigrants are seen wearing colored wristbands—commonly used by cartels to indicate payment and coordination for illegal crossings. The driver refused to stop, leading to a high-speed pursuit. The Trooper safely performed a PIT maneuver, ending the pursuit. The driver then bailed out and attempted to flee on foot, but was no match for the Trooper's determination and physical endurance. After climbing a fence while trying to escape, the suspect was tased and taken into custody. The driver, Samuel Infante of Laredo, was arrested and charged with six counts of smuggling of persons. Six illegal immigrants were turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol. As the trooper made contact with the driver of a red Chevy Colorado, the driver attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. The driver, Wilber Adonay Serrano Ruiz of Houston, TX, was charged with smuggling of persons after troopers discovered four illegal immigrants from Mexico concealed inside the vehicle. The illegal immigrants were turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol. 🚨 BRUSH TEAM TAKEDOWN | SPECIAL INTEREST ALIEN APPREHENDED 🚨 STARR COUNTY (5/5/26) — Texas DPS Brush Team, working alongside the U.S. Border Patrol, apprehended six illegal immigrants during multiple encounters throughout the day in the Roma area. During one incident, an individual attempted to flee from troopers but was quickly tracked down and taken into custody by Brush Team members. Texas DPS Captures Convicted Child Sex Offender from Mexico in Maverick County On October 15, 2025, a Texas DPS Trooper stopped a gray Dodge Challenger on US 277 in Eagle Pass, leading to the arrest of Joshua Sanders of Fort Worth, Texas. Sanders was smuggling three illegal immigrants. One of the individuals, Jose Aleman Arroyo of Mexico, was identified as an aggravated deported felon who illegally re-entered the U.S. after being convicted of indecency with a child and assault.
