In my final post about #BadBunny’s #SuperBowl half time show: whoever was around in the end of 90s and early 2000s, surely remember the phenomenon #RickyMartin was in the U.S. and Europe. The #LivinLaVidaLoca craze was one of the biggest I’ve seen in my lifetime, something not even #BadBunny himself got close yet. And even at that level, and despite singing in English for the Anglo markets, #RickyMartin was never in a stage of the #SuperBowl . Even being bigger than anyone else in his peak wasn’t big enough for a Latino to be front and Center on that stage. Just few years ago, the #SuperBowl still thought even freaking #Shakira wasn’t big enough for their stage so she would just be allowed there if sharing the space with #JLo. That’s how far we came to see,in 2026, a Latino like #BadBunny singing in Spanish as the main act of the event. And the fact that Benito brought #RickyMartin, who opened the doors for the latino stars to do the crossover & compete on the same level as the English speaking mega pop stars, to this stage, was a beautiful recognition of the role Ricky had played for almost 30 years ago so this moment could be even possible today. And in a way, a reparation. TONIGHT was live history in so many levels. Again, #BadBunny could have made this concert all about himself, about his momentum, his career peek. But the choices and decisions he made for this show, way beyond himself, are what exactly will perpetuate the legacy and importance of this moment.

In the very weekend ladies all over the world showed up and delivered strong numbers at Global #BoxOffice, megastar #Shakira deserves a big shout out for her triumph in #Brazil, reuniting 2M attendees in her concert at #TodoMundoNoRio annual mega concert series at #Copacabana Beach in RIO! As one of the last truly Global stars left still relevant & pulling big numbers, the Colombian singer managed to attract the BIGGEST audience ever recorded in the world for any Latino, solo or band, and even achieving the deed of surpassing QUEEN OF POP #Madonna’s historic 1.6M attendees in the first concert of the #TodoMundoNoRio series back in 2024. SHAKIRA’s biggest concert EVER crowned a lifetime of achievements in a 4-decade spanning career, in which she’s been used to achieve the highest marks usually unthinkable for Latin artists, competing on the same league as the usual American and European A-listers and opening the doors to many younger Latinos to try and achieve the same. She worked hard to show it was possible. And the world has never been the same ever since. Before Shakira, most Latin artists would come and go on those “Latin waves” that hit the world of music from time to time, usually forced to sing in English & share their spotlight with an Anglo artist collab to surf the wave while it lasted. But Shakira proved she had what it takes to stay. She wasn’t no wave. She was the new higher standard and she knew it, and fought hard to be seen that way. Shakira proved she could conquer the world also in her own language if she had the platform she worked hard to project herself into to make it happen. And paved the way so others after her could be more than a wave & could remain true to themselves while also competing with their Anglo counterparts. #Shakira’s name is already engraved in the music industry’s history, but she still will keep breaking more records, barriers & stigmas. Her mega-concert of yesterday was just the latest and biggest feather in her incredible pantheon of achievements yet. We are here for many more to come! Bravo!!!

In the week we’ve been discussing a lot about how Chinese are consuming more and more their own productions, this piece of interview #FernandaTorres gave to Deadline is so fascinating, involuntarily presenting herself as the exact antithesis to everything director #JacquesAudiard says & represents to me. Torres not only defends a cultural product so strong in LatAm as the soap operas aka TELENOVELAS are, but also blows the interviewer’s mind with the why soap operas were and are so important and beneficial to their own markets’ protection and self-development- while I’m sure that a coloniser mindset - such as Mr. Audiard’s - would 100% refer to soap operas as “a thing of the poor, of the simple minded” as European and American cultural elites traditionally would refer to them. But those elites criticise soap operas (as they criticise bollywood, anime, tokusatsu, doramas, etc) because those local productions are exactly what stayed in the way of US and Europe’s intent of total cultural dominance in the west, helping those countries as some of their own several tools to build their own cultural identities’ armours, along with their unique music, arts and theatre scenes that gave opportunities for them to see & listen to themselves and feel proud of what they can do and can achieve by themselves, instead of only relying on/consuming just what the markets from the north hemisphere sent to them. We also see a lot of that in Asian markets which have their own cultural products and powerful local industries that US and Europe tried to diminish & isolate for decades, like in Japan, Korea, China, India, but those markets resisted and now are slowly gaining international traction as well, and giving us more variety and making Hollywood to rethink their way of reaching global audiences that learned to represent themselves in their own ways instead of waiting Hollywood to do it for them. Fascinating stuff.
