I addressed the media on major operational successes recorded by the Criminal Investigations Department in the fight against serious crime across the country. The briefing covered key investigations involving child sexual exploitation, child trafficking, cyber-enabled abuse, homicide, and other violent offences. In collaboration with INTERPOL and the Australian Federal Police, the Ghana Police Service successfully arrested suspects involved in child sexual exploitation offences and rescued vulnerable child victims from abuse. The CID also provided updates on the arrest of a suspect connected to the murder and burning of a body at Legon Bypass, ongoing investigations into the non-consensual sharing of intimate images, and efforts to dismantle a child trafficking syndicate operating within the country. These operations reflect the commitment, professionalism, and dedication of our investigators, operational teams, forensic experts, and partner agencies who continue to work tirelessly to protect lives and uphold justice. The Ghana Police Service remains fully committed to safeguarding the public, protecting vulnerable persons, and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.

A single recovered firearm can expose an entire criminal network. At the 21st INTERPOL Heads of National Central Bureaus Conference in Lyon, France, I highlighted on “The use of INTERPOL’s iARMS database against firearm crimes in West Africa: the case of Ghana.” Firearm crime is not isolated. It is linked to organized crime, trafficking networks, and cross-border threats. Ghana’s approach shows that iARMS is not just a database. It is an operational tool that supports tracing, intelligence development, and international cooperation. Between 2024 and the first quarter of 2026, Ghana conducted 5,251 searches, resulting in 80 hits, with 66 linked to the United States and tied to active investigations. This shows how every recovery, when properly traced, can generate real intelligence beyond borders.

Today, I had the honor of serving as the Keynote Speaker at the Commonwealth Workshop for Criminal Justice Agencies on Cybercrime Law and Electronic Evidence. The session brought together participants from across law enforcement agencies all committed to strengthening our collective capacity in handling cybercrime investigations and electronic evidence. I spoke on the importance of collaboration, digital readiness, and legal precision in tackling modern cyber threats and the need for law enforcement to advance in digital forensics. As technology evolves, so must our investigative and prosecutorial frameworks. It was inspiring to see the participants share the same passion for justice, integrity, and innovation in law enforcement.

Meeting His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II today on his historic visit to the national headquarters of the Ghana Police Service was deeply insightful. His wisdom on conflict resolution and community harmony resonated strongly with the work we do at the CID, where maintaining peace and ensuring justice depend on trust between the people and those who serve them. True leadership inspires peace, and peace sustains justice.
