I'm likely in the minority but I used to record on VHS in the late 2000s early 2010s for TV episodes I missed. There's some commercials from the late 2000s that have only been recorded on VHS even in the HD era. The last VCR was released in 2016.

Real ones knew this was happening on Netflix for over a decade. Can you guess which version of this anime was on Netflix.

One thing I like about both this and the 1979 anime version is how SUPER dramatic they are. The board breaking on gilbert's head was quick in both the american and canadian anne of green gables films, meanwhile the anime got it in slow-mo and an instant replay.

Maybe I'm just a pretentious boomer hipster but when I think of indie animation, I think of stuff that either has no dialogue or isn't in english so no one would know if the dialogue is bad

So this was the official opening animation for Anime Expo '93, made by university students from California and Michigan! It's been on YouTube for awhile, although the university likely has a better quality copy

Not defending the dub, but the way VAs are trained and coached are different for every country. Screaming can damage your voice so a lot of english dubs tone it down. If you ever compare dubs and wonder why the english version sounds less intense, that's why.

There's a Dirty Pair fandub from 1989 called The Arrest of Mr. Macek

This is how you know it was dubbed by in Canada (as if the Avril Lavigne-style opening made for the dub wasn't a dead giveaway)
