WATCH | BREAKING: ANC councillors in Maluti-a-Phofung walked out of a council meeting that was meant to debate a motion of no confidence against its mayor. Following their walkout, a group of "thugs" carrying knives entered the council chambers accompanied by ANC councillors and trashed the place. The motion of no confidence did, however, proceed without the ANC and the mayor was removed. WATCH | ANC Regional Secretary Sasabona Manganye Manganyi spoke to M&G politics reporter Lunga_mzangwe in an exclusive interview saying a matric qualification is the minimum requirement for the party's councillor candidates. "Council deals with a lot of complex issues, so you can't just take a person and say, 'Go there and become a councillor.' When they get to council, they can't even comprehend the discussions. That is why this requirement is in place.
