Personal post: As you congratulate families in Israel being reunited do not forget to convey your condolences to yet another one hundred bereaved Palestinian family. Does it still mean anything when you hear 150 Palestinian killed, or has it become part of the daily routine. Scores of civilians and many children were killed today in the Israeli operation and they may not be mentioned or will be a footnote in today’s news at best. As you smile seeing a father finally embracing his daughter in Tel Aviv, shed a tear for the father having to bury his daughter in Gaza. There is a way for Palestinian and Israeli families to be reunited in life not in death. That is the success we should all be striving for. After 8 months of massacres, Israel will use today’s images to try and justify the killing of 36000 Palestinians and the destruction of the lives of 2,3 million Palestinians. Don’t let it.

Once the slaughter is over, and it has to be over, there is an expectation that Palestinians should move on regardless of the lives lost, of the limbs lost, of the loved ones lost. There is an expectation that parents will walk the earth with the shadow of their killed children and do nothing about it. The children who are orphaned will hold onto the memory of their parents but not to the anger over how they were killed. There is an expectation that a nation will be able to move on from the reality of parents carrying their children’s remains in plastic bags, of families buried under the rubble or in the sand they found shelter in after everything else was destroyed. That we will be able to move on as a nation from the images of burning children, of starving infants, of the impact that bombs left behind, on the lives of many Palestinians, on their scarred bodies, in their hearts and minds, of the impact that a single bullet lodged in the child’s head or heart has over an entire family forever. We said long ago, we made a choice, to seek justice not vengeance, but we cannot be prevented from seeking either. We cannot continue to be denied our right to life, to liberty, to dignity. We cannot be denied recourse and reparation. No one has a rightful claim to supremacy, to exceptionalism, to domination, to oppression, no one.

Netanyahu invoking the Holocaust to explain why Israeli leaders can not be held accountable for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide forgetting that the entire world order was built in reaction to the Holocaust and other tragedies to ensure humanity would not tolerate such crimes regardless of the identity of the perpetrators or the identify of the victims. For those who contest our right to an independent state in our land, what are they proposing? A one-state solution between the river and the sea, with equal rights for all, with everyone enjoying the right to vote and able to exercise their political and human rights? I doubt that is their intention given the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. So what are they proposing? There are only three options left: genocide, ethnic cleansing, or apartheid, or a combination of all three. The destruction and removal of a nation by force and the continued subjugation of a people. This is horrible and unacceptable and it is what we are witnessing before our very eyes.
