Team South Africa protested for Nigeria to be stripped of its GOLD medal after their anchor leg tripped and fell when she came in contact with Nigeria's Favour Onyah in the Mixed 4x400m final at the African Junior Championships in Abeokuta. After the jury heard the appeal, it was South Africa who eventually got disqualified and stripped of the Silver medal they had won. Team Botswana got upgraded to Silver.

He said 'if I did better in Swimming, he would buy me ice-cream once every week.' That's the promise we have kept with each other, and that's what brought me here (qualifying for the #Olympics) On choosing to represent Nigeria: "they (Nigerian Swimming Federation) reached out to me in 2022 to come for the National Sports Festival... one thing led to the other, and I am here in Paris to represent Nigeria."
