A mother has been arrested in Wyong, on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia, after a deeply disturbing incident involving her 4-year-old son. The home was on Byron Street in Wyong. Authorities were called after the woman contacted police herself and allegedly confessed to eating part of her own child. Police went to the home after she reported the act. The mother had a mostly clean record apart from older drink-driving matters. Child protection services had been contacted about the pair about 18 months earlier. She has been taken for mental-health assessment while investigators examine whether drugs or a severe mental-health episode played a role. Identities of the mother and child have not been released while the investigation continues.
