Hang on! The hysteria around our trans exp proves we are in the fabric of the main stream. Most will grow up and get over it. And remember, they may be trying to take our rights away, but when I was a kid, there was no rights to be taken. That’s how far we’ve come.

Dear trans siblings. Re: The 🇺🇸 election. I made it through the 1970s to today and can see all the progress we have made. This is a hiccup, not the end. Trust me. We’ve always had to fight. All marginalized persons have. Take a breath, get some rest and I’ll meet you back on the front line soon. This is the Way 💜🙏🏼✨ Love, Mardi

Growing up Trans in the late 1970s it was well-known there were only three ways to support yourself during transition. 1. If your parents were unicorns and they would support you. Which was very very rare. 2. To work in a drag bar if they would let you. Most in western Canada were not too accepting of transitioning women and drag. Also The Harry Benjamin Standards of Care at the time made it precarious to be in gay circles because if they found out they would deny you continued Trans healthcare. 3. To be a SW. Back then the only SW you could do was on the streets. The bigger the city you could place an ad in the back of a magazine. It was 10 years into my transition at 25 that I found out that in several major Canadian cities, you could actually apply for a license and work at an agency. Here’s my 1987 “Companion” license Back then, I was the only licensed pre-SRS Trans Grl in the City. (not a flex, it was just rare) At 25 I had struck pay dirt again, to feed my dis-ease of More. - Mardi 🏳️‍⚧️💋🧛‍♀️
