The news from Ukraine is horrific. What Russia is doing is state terror. People are freezing. With Foreign Ministers we are discussing emergency support. We just sent almost 500 generators, we are preparing 500 more to keep the lights on in hospital, shelters, and critical services. More help will follow. We are also discussing the prosperity paper for post-war Ukraine. EU accession reforms are at its heart because they are a proven way to growth and investment. We’re talking about the Western Balkans here at the Foreign Ministers meeting in Brussels. When countries in the region deliver, we do too: the start of drafting Montenegro's accession treaty, new payments under the Growth Plans, and Serbia joining SEPA. Now is the time for strategic choices. Also for Serbia. It needs implementing EU reforms it has repeatedly promised to deliver. It needs responding to what citizens ask loud and clearly. Now is the time to deliver & lead Serbia to the EU. The EU's offer will not be matched.

EU accession talks with Albania progress faster than ever. In European Parliament, I reiterated that progress in negotiations is a clear sign of 🇦🇱's commitment & continued 🇪🇺 support. A whole of society involvement will be crucial to achieve 🇦🇱's goal to close negotiations by 2027.

I urged EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels today to formally open all the negotiation clusters for Ukraine and Moldova before Summer. We are also hosting the High-Level Meeting of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children. War has many faces, but stealing children is really one of the most horrific. My doorstep comments about Ukraine this morning arriving at today’s Foreign Affairs Council.

Hungarian elections bring positive news for EU enlargement. We will move forward with the €90 billion loan and hope that the Council will soon open all negotiations clusters with Ukraine and Moldova. Both countries are delivering on reforms. We’ll also discuss our relations with the South Caucasus. As instability in the world grows, the region has become Europe’s only land bridge to Asia. We want to strengthen this corridor even further so Europe is better prepared before the next crisis hits. My full #FAC doorstep ⤵️
