Rockies outfielder Troy Johnston, who went 3-for-5 in the team’s win tonight: "So, coming from the Miami Marlins, when I walk around Miami, I never saw a Miami Marlins jersey. I never saw a Miami Marlins hat. I saw nothing of the sort. When I'm walking around downtown Denver, they are really excited about the Rockies. They want the Rockies to be good. This is a sports town. We are trying to put a good product on the field. I think Paul (DePodesta's) done a great job of that. I have never seen so many supporters of one team that I've actually been a part of, that I've been on. This city and this team wants to win.”

![Broncos coach Sean Payton details the circumstances of learning about Bo Nix's season-ending ankle fracture: "As he comes over [to the sideline], I kind of chest bump him, jab him, like, 'Fricking A.' And he's like, 'Careful.' It was then I'm like, 'You all right?' And he said, 'Yeah.' He goes, 'But, man, it's hurting.' And I said, 'What do you got?' He said, "My ankle," and I said, 'All right.' I said, 'You'll be fine,' and I tapped him in the chest again. I said, 'Just enjoy this field goal.' And so, we come in afterwards and at that point it's -- everyone's in there and celebrate. And I came and did the presser with you all. When I came back from that press conference, Beau (Lowery), our medical trainer, George (Paton), there was a group in my office and I knew -- they didn't say anything, but I knew there was something. We always meet after the game and discuss injuries, but that was early. And they said, 'Look, there's a fracture.' Showed me the x-ray. Immediately I walked down the hall. Bo was kind of sitting outside the locker room, leaning up against the wall. His wife, his parents, his family there, I think Stiddy, a few others. And I just asked him how he was doing, 'Are you hanging in there?' And I said to you guys last night, this is a strong-minded individual. Obviously it was disappointing right at that moment to get to this point. Broncos RB J.K. Dobbins, who has played in 47 career games but has missed 49 (including playoffs) due to injuries, pushed back on the notion of being called "injury-prone." "Well, see, people say I have injury issues, but I don't. I've had two major injuries. That's it. It's not like I'm rolling ankles or -- it's not like I'm injury-prone. It's just the injuries that I've had have been unfortunate. ... There are two. That's only two, though. Injury-prone is like, 'Oh, you got this injury, that injury, that injury, that injury.' No, it's only two injuries, literally. And one took two years because it was my whole knee that got blown off."

Two years ago leading up to the draft, Chris Simms had Bo Nix higher than most; Nix was his QB3. So, I followed up with Simms on this to look back at his pre-draft evaluation. "People draft offenses too much. That's the other problem," Simms explained. "So, they draft the offense of the team. That's how the busts happen. That's how Tim Tebow or Matt Leinart happen. Where they go, 'Oh, they win games and their stats are amazing!' And I go, 'Well, watch the game. Tim Tebow threw the ball one yard to Percy Harvin and he ran 80 yards and we go, 'Tim Tebow, amazing!' or Matt Leinart threw a screen to Reggie (Bush) and he ran 100 yards all over the place and we go, 'He's the No. 1 pick; he's a winner!' And that's how you bust on the draft. And with Bo Nix, what happened was, 'Oh, all he does is throw screens.' Well, here we are, Dante Moore, he's still throwing screens, he's got a big arm. That's the offense they run. And there was enough to see and go, 'This is a downfield throw, whoa, the ball popped out of his hand. He can do it with ease.' And then the decision-making and the accuracy. So, I feel like the narrative took over with Bo Nix rather than people just looking at what he is and what he does."

Blocking has kept Marcedes Lewis in the league for 20 seasons — so long that when he was a rookie, he did the Oklahoma Drill in Jags camp, when Fred Taylor told him, “You keep blocking like that, you’re gonna be in the league for a long time.” Lewis said Taylor texted him this morning. “He’s like, ‘Man, you’re my hero. I can’t believe you’re doing this,’” Lewis said.

Broncos RB J.K. Dobbins, standing up for Bo Nix: "Nah, he ain't miss no throws. He ain't miss no throws. He played a great game. We got his back. I got his back. He's a great quarterback. It's a team game. We lost. We lost as a team. It's not on him. It's not on him. ... I gotta make more plays for him, and that's it. He ain't made no bad throws, he just -- it is what it is. Jarrett Stidham said he was "very disappointed" when he heard he lost the QB derby to Bo Nix. "I know I'm a starting quarterback in this league. I have zero doubts about that. And, it just didn't shake out my way. But I know what kind of player I am, kind of person I am."

Broncos LT Garett Bolles: "I'm pretty angry and frustrated. There's a lot of tears that came down my face yesterday. I've been here for a long time. And to get that close hurt really bad. But at the same time, I know exactly where this team is going. I know the future that we have. ... People want to come to Denver. I mean, I'll be shocked to see how many free agents want to come here. We got a young team, we got a quarterback. We got the best O-line in football. I don't care what anyone says; we do. That's just reality. Numbers don't lie. Stats don't lie. You guys can look that up. That's just reality. When you have a dominant O-line and a dominant defensive line, people want to come here. When you got a phenomenal quarterback in Bo, people don't give him the credit where he had, the season that he had was phenomenal. ... We have a great running back room. We got great receivers. Obviously, we need some key players to come in and do what they need to do by getting points on the scoreboard. We had a phenomenal defense. We have everything we need. We just need a couple more playmakers. And the sky's the limit for this team."

Former Broncos assistant Klint Kubiak is set to become Raiders head coach next week. But for Gary Kubiak's son, it might have all been different. For "about 2 weeks," he worked for an oil-field service company. But it was then he realized he wanted coaching to be his life's work:

Been thinking a lot today about how Sean Payton last August compared free-agent shopping to his parents' proclivity for finding family couches at garage sales. "I don't want to use the parallel, but my parents loved garage sale-ing. That was their deal, the one thing they enjoyed together. And I think I had 10 couches growing up, right. And so they come home with a new couch and you'd remove the old one. And you were so excited -- It was a sectional -- until you sat in the left corner and it wiggled. And then you realized why it was a free agent. And so, you just have to really do your homework and spend a lot of time on it."

The last time Idaho won a men’s NCAA Tourney game, in 1982, the late local radio legend Irv Brown called play-by-play for CBS. He was working color, but Fred White got laryngitis, so Irv slid over & the late George Raveling came down from the crowd to provide analysis.

Broncos edge rusher Jonathon Cooper, on the Eagles' "tush push": "I mean, we all know why it's difficult to defend. We've seen the tape. Obviously, they've perfected it, to a certain degree. But ... the football game ain't the tush push ... The game is the zones and the play-action. The passes and stopping the run and getting after the passer and stuff. So if I see a tush push, I mean, it's whatever."

Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, on Josh Allen: "He's a special player, obviously. It's certain guys in this league that can take over games, and he's one of those guys. But we knew to win a championship here, it was going to go through Patrick (Mahomes) and Lamar (Jackson) and Josh and Joe Burrow. I mean, that's the AFC side, unfortunately. That's where we live. So, we knew we gotta face one of those guys eventually. So, watching Pittsburgh and Baltimore last week, I was cheering for Pittsburgh. Because I knew that Lamar can wreck your dreams and so can Josh, So. that's part of it, you know, if you're going to win the AFC side, it's going through those four guys, and it's our turn."
