Too many "redpills" in aggregate across my life, but in retrospect, it all began with Rush Limbaugh in my dad's Oldsmobile as a young boy. I couldn't even tell you the things he was talking about, let alone even understand half of them at an early age, but it was a forging of sorts that created real, lasting impact. I would hear those opening notes and vividly recall knowing something powerful was about to be transmitted over those AM airwaves. We would have myriad conversations over the chatter, but it was always there, sometimes we'd pause and listen, sometimes we'd just keep talking. Years went by before I learned that the song that opened his show was The Pretenders "My City Was Gone" but hearing it immediately transported me back to riding around with him, and still does. The song is still in heavy rotation for me, and every time I listen to the lyrics, his selection of this track becomes even more prescient. With the magic of internet, this clip is a recreation of one of my earliest, core passenger-seat memory. Maybe you experienced something similar?
