VIDEO: This morning, I addressed the media on a number of issues, particularly yesterday's statements by Mr Robert Kyagulanyi, the NUP president, and the Hon Allan Ssewanyana of Makindye West, in regard to the 2021 Bijambiya killings in Masaka. The time for letting some characters to irresponsibly mudsling, malign, and defame us is behind our backs. The time now is for those characters to account for the statements they make. I have, therefore, instructed my attorneys to file a suit in court, which will ultimately give Mr Kyagulanyi and Hon Ssewanya an opportunity to tell the country and families of the Bijambiya victims what they know about those killings.

The Democratic Front (DF) congratulates all Ugandan village communities that successfully elected their leaders, in what turned out as the most primitive democratic system! We especially congratulate DF members that were elected despite the stone-age methods the EC deployed. We take serious exception to the following: 1. The The Electoral Commission - Uganda continued exhibition of incompetence and its inability to learn from past mistakes; 2. The brazen exhibition of partisanship by EC Election officials at various levels; 3. The failure by EC officials to follow basic electoral guidelines and procedures; 4. The unwarranted use of force by the police and other armed service forces; 5. A clear lack of standard procedures in the entire exercise leaving citizens at the mercy of goons protected by security agencies We cannot claim to be a middle income country, and yet incapable of setting and maintaining basic electoral standards. The continued lack of basic standards and integrity in our elections undermines the little gains we could have made in growing an enduring democracy. We remain probably the only country where a simple community exercise of choosing leaders returns the whole country to stone-age standards. This must stop and the Electoral Commission must style up. The EC must rest assured that no sane citizen bought into the no money excuse for conducting a secret ballot election. This primitive system endangers democracy, undermines community values and has the grave danger of engendering domestic violence. We invite the citizen never to accept this primitive system again. This and other backward methods of conducting elections shall form part of our electoral reforms agenda.

This afternoon, I put Parliament of Uganda on notice that next week, I will move as a private member and table a Bill to amend the Constitution and introduce Electoral reforms now that the state seems to have abdicated its duty. As we speak, various parties including the ruling NRM, have already issued their roadmaps as we move into the 2026 electoral cycle, the The Electoral Commission - Uganda is already implementing its roadmap but the Executive seems unbothered about the reforms.

We have written to the Speaker demanding an update from the Executive in regard to the commitments it made on 5th Dec 2023, before Parliament of Uganda relating to our comrades who have been missing for nearly 4 years, plus the unabated violation of human rights by state actors.
