AEW Jarrett stood out because his peers that possessed comparable skills are all gone. In this match, they made the strut into a reward worth earning: having Daivari mock it, denying it over and over then paying it off big. They made the fans care. Magic.

The bravest babyface in pro wrestling today. In a world where everyone's wanted to be Stone Cold for decades, where cool faces are as big a problem as cool heels, he's willing to say "Stand up. Cheer. I can't do this alone. I need you. You matter. This matters." And so it does.

The goal isn't realism. The goal is immersion into a fictional reality with its own rules and norms. That takes commitment, consistency, consequence. Reality just isn't good enough. That's why Professional Wrestling has to exist.

Thinking of Mongo, one thing I'll give Will Ospreay credit for is his reactions in the smaller moments of a match. He always comes off as someone who wants to be there and that loves what he does. I wish his matches would breathe just a little more to allow more of these moments.

You say you like storytelling? Here's some wrestling storytelling. Nigel counters the first choke mid-match by targeting the legs. Shibata doesn't cross them late in the match to avoid getting caught the same way. That leaves him open for the pin counter.

Now and again you’ll hear someone say that there aren’t high spots in shoot-style. I think these people are either watching the wrong shoot-style or watching it the wrong way. This was early into Maeda v Takada (UWF 6/90) and the crowd went up huge for it.

Eddie did everything right to start. He charged in at the bell, worked the crowd, fed energetically for the comeback. Then he went after the mask and used the stairs. Hechicero was fiery in response but despite that, the crowd refused to come with him.

We're all bad at successfully defining what a technical wrestler is, but I am still 100% sure that in practice, Matt Borne as Doink was a better technical wrestler than Kurt Angle based on his creative choices. Weirdly, Angle may have been a better clown.

Billy Gunn towers over most wrestlers and is in amazing shape, but he's still 62. It was fearless for Kyle Fletcher to stooge, both emotionally and physically, to get heat and selfless for him to let his partner be the one to benefit from it with the tag.

There's some point in (mostly) every wrestling's fan life when everything just clicks and it becomes apparent just how great these two minutes of Harley Race vs Haku are. If you're not there yet, it's okay. There's still time. Life is a journey.

In October 2001, Bryan Danielson invents the Yes Chants (before Diego Sanchez ever has a MMA fight) after Chance Beckett (not cleared) lays down. Then in the impromptu match that follows quite possibly invents the Fargo Strut too? Timing there? Less clear.

In pro wrestling, value is artificially created. Things mean what they are made to mean. Do the most amazing things. But then make them matter as much as much as humanly possible. This spot blew the minds of the MSG crowd. But that was just the beginning..

What made Steve Austin special wasn’t what he did but how he did it. It was the way he hit the ropes, the way he threw himself at his opponent, how he always tried to get one extra shot in. It was never about spots or moves, but creating an overall effect.

Mimi Hagiwara was incredible in 82-83. Her look of absolute fury as she recovers on the floor is perfect pro wrestling expressiveness. Then she comes in on fire. Shortly thereafter, she literally bounds off the interference and stands tall. Total star.

MJF beat Darby because Darby's body gave out, yes, but also because MJF had plenty of recent matches to scout Darby in. Darby had won multiple times in the last month by turning a Scorpion Deathlock rope break into an immediate Coffin Drop. MJF was ready.

Everyone should experience 1988 Sting in all of his glory at least once. This sums it up well. He jumped off the screen, but once he ended up in your living room and was cutting promos, you were left wondering how to get him back into the TV.

The true strength of Kyle Fletcher is a fearless sort of patience. He trusts the crowd. He trusts his opponent. He trusts himself. He trusts wrestling. Instead of rushing to the next spot, he lets the mood build, creates anticipation, then pays it off.
