We're all bad at successfully defining what a technical wrestler is, but I am still 100% sure that in practice, Matt Borne as Doink was a better technical wrestler than Kurt Angle based on his creative choices. Weirdly, Angle may have been a better clown.

Billy Gunn towers over most wrestlers and is in amazing shape, but he's still 62. It was fearless for Kyle Fletcher to stooge, both emotionally and physically, to get heat and selfless for him to let his partner be the one to benefit from it with the tag.

In October 2001, Bryan Danielson invents the Yes Chants (before Diego Sanchez ever has a MMA fight) after Chance Beckett (not cleared) lays down. Then in the impromptu match that follows quite possibly invents the Fargo Strut too? Timing there? Less clear.

Stooging is 60% a willingness to look the fool and 40% timing and body language. It takes absolute commitment and complete confidence in one's self. It gives the fans nothing positive to latch on to, serving the match and not the wrestler. Kyle Fletcher will save pro wrestling.

Struggle is everything. I'd much rather see a wrestler simulate fighting with everything he has not to go up on a pile driver than the most athletic collaborative spot in the world. It's not about realism. It's about immersion and suspension of disbelief. If they care, we care.

Airing ~36 years ago today on AWA TV, here's the gift of an aghast Larry Zbyszko stalling like only he could as "The Ultimate Soldier" surprisingly looks a lot like Masa Saito. It IS a gift to watch him do his thing and get his heat and build up pressure.
