SAHARAN DUST 🏜️🐪 It's that time of the year again! Plumes of dust will be heading west from Africa over the next 2 weeks...some of which could head aloft into the United States. Helps to suppress tropical activity in impacted areas and can lead to an extra vibrant glow at sunrise & sunset. Here's the latest model:

UPDATE: A LOT of tropical moisture on the way across Florida the next 5-10 days. For example, those moisture levels will be 50%-75% above average, which will aid in developing numerous rounds of storms across the state. Values shown are PWATS or precipitable water levels. Around 1.6" is typical this time of the year for Florida, which you'll notice we'll be above the next 7-10 days. Some online chatter about tropical development. Not impossible, but current odds are low. Physics-based models show the potential, AI models largely don't. Rainmaker regardless if it tries to form into a weak tropical/subtropical system or not. We need the rain!

Best way to think about it is that Florida will see a one-two punch. The first one will bring us rain Sunday into Monday with an area of low pressure along a stalled out front. Then the 2nd, main punch from tropical storm or hurricane approaches on Tuesday into Wednesday. WINK News

Latest GRAF model on future Hurricane #Helene. As shear lowers ahead you can see it wrap storms eventually around its core near the Yucatan Channel (this run has it briefly over the actual Peninsula). When in the Gulf of Mexico, intensification occurs...potentially rapidly.

TROPICAL UPDATE: The GRAF model shows Invest #94L getting its act together and becoming a tropical system this weekend in the Bahamas. The GRAF is often more aggressive with intensity than others, but the general idea is also supported right now by most of the hurricane models. WINK News

TROPICAL UPDATE: Considering the ensemble support, the NHC has designated a new area in the Bahamas towards Florida with currently a 10% chance of development. Rainmaker regardless if it forms or not into the weekend. You'll notice in the final frames of our GRAF model a low tries to tighten up a bit towards West Palm and Jupiter Saturday night. Nothing to stress over, I'll watch it for you. WINK News

This coastal low / nor'easter is going to be a doozy Sunday into Monday. Not tropical (will have fronts attached to it), but will basically bring tropical storm impacts without a name. @WINKNews
