The King showed his ‘pride’ for LGBT+ servicemen and veterans as he joined the dedication for a new memorial. Charles, 76, joined 300 serving and former veterans at the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffs. He paused and appeared emotional as he laid flowers at a new memorial marking the LGBT+ community who have served in the armed forces. Many veterans who attended had been thrown out of the armed forces for their sexuality before the ban was fully overturned in 2000. Ex-RAF serviceman Simon Hinchley-Robson, 61, had tears in his eyes after meeting the King He said: “I was discharged in 1986. “I said to the King it matters and thanked him for coming up, and he said he was proud of all of us.”
