Hussein Saleh lost 8 members of his family in an Israeli strike on their home, including his pregnant wife. He found the head of his young daughter amid the rubble. “When I picked up her head, everything changed. Something in my heart broke and went silent.” It is one of the most heartbreaking stories Nada Homsi and I have worked on during the war. Nothing could justify such a horrific attack.

So grateful Lebanese paramedics are wearing body cams. They are documenting, in real time, the war crimes they endure. No more doubting them, no more “where is the proof?” Another double-tap attack today caught on camera: as rescuers of the Civil Defence of the Islamic Health Authority inspected the site of a previously targeted building, Israeli jets struck the location again directly, injuring two paramedics.

“I told her, ‘I’m next to you.’ She told me, ‘Don’t fall asleep and leave me.’ I said, ‘No, no.’ Then exhaustion took over. I closed my eyes for a moment. Then I heard Amal scream. They struck the room again. Amal was gone.” Reporter Zeinab Faraj recounts the harrowing hours her and journalist Amal Khalil waited for evacuation, as Israeli strikes pursued them, while preventing rescuers from reaching them. Reporting from the historic city of Tyre for The National. We saw clear damage at one of the archaeological sites, where wreckage was scattered among ancient Roman ruins and a column had been broken by an Israeli strike on Sunday. The attack targeted, and completely obliterated, a heritage house just a few metres away. The area is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, which legally protects landmarks or areas legally because of their “outstanding value to humanity.”

‼️Israel denied a UNIFIL-cleared humanitarian and media convoy access to its occupied zone in southern Lebanon on Monday. We were among 10 international journalists due to accompany the Christian charity L’Œuvre d’Orient as it delivered aid to isolated village. We had all the required permissions, but the Israeli army denied us access at the last minute when we reached its checkpoint in Naqoura. It has become almost impossible for journalists to report from inside Israel’s occupied zone in southern Lebanon. The Israeli army controls all movement in and out of the area, granting or denying access to aid workers, journalists and residents - without explaining why. West Bank style.

We spent the day with civil defence and paramedics in Nabatieh, where four Lebanese rescuers were killed in a series of targeted Israeli strikes. Despite the risks, and constant bombing, they say they will not abandon their duty. Some returned to work even while injured.

A school, a civil defence centre, historical and religious landmarks, a hospital: these are some of the damaged and destroyed sites we saw in southern Lebanon - outside of the areas occupied by Israel. The “ceasefire” does not mean life has returned to normal. Despite a relative calm, many residents have nothing to return to. Others, particularly those living within the so-called “yellow line”, cannot access their villages, many of which have been razed, without risking being shot by Israeli troops.

Nada Homsi and I interviewed one of the survivors of a quadruple-tap Israeli attack on rescuers that killed four on Wednesday. Here is Gaby Zalghout’s account, who was among the first to arrive to the scene. A first ambulance was dispatched to rescue civilians in Mayfoun. Israel struck them as paramedics were pulling out a body. A SECOND strike hit after another ambulance arrived. Gaby, who was injured, then tried to evacuate the wounded, driving away from the scene under continued Israeli artillery fire. As a third team arrived, Israel struck a THIRD TIME. Four paramedics were killed. Israel has not provided any justification for the strikes targeting them.

A destroyed school, water station, playground and mosque. This is some of the destruction we saw in Debinne , a village that has been completely flattened by Israel, like many villages across the deep south. We’ve been working on a full package on Israel’s “buffer zone” doctrine in Lebanon for The National , based on several reporting trips near the so-called “yellow line” - a belt of dozens of villages stretching roughly 5–7 kilometres from the border with Israel. Our latest video from Nabatieh, on whose outskirts fighting has intensified over the past few days. Clashes are still ongoing despite the announcement of a sixth ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel. Hezbollah says it has been confronting advancing Israeli forces in the area for the past four days. The city is strategically important as a major transport hub linking areas south of the Litani River with eastern Lebanon. In Nabatieh, Israeli strikes have spared nothing, including the historic souk, the Civil Defence centre and essential infrastructure. The few people who decided to return despite the volatile situation found little left to come back to. For The National

Medics in Nabatiyeh are paying a heavy price from Israeli strikes. Two rescuers, aged 16 and 23, were killed in a targeted strike yesterday, and a Civil Defence centre was destroyed last week, injuring more than 10 rescuers. Medical personnel are protected under IHL, but strikes are not “distinguishing between military and civilian targets,” they told us.

Constant Israeli artillery fire on the outskirts of the city and drones flying overhead, the situation remains extremely volatile here in Nabatieh. Despite the US-Iran interim agreement, Israel has said it will not withdraw from southern Lebanon. Its troops are only a few kilometres from the city. Nabatieh was subjected to intense Israeli air strikes during the war. It’s is now safer, so we could see the massive scale of the destruction, which includes the historic heritage souk.
