Boeing NT-43A RAT55 / NASA522 departing Palmdale Rare sighting of an incredibly secretive aircraft! The heavily modified Boeing 737-200 NT-43A (serial 73-1155), better known by its callsign RAT55 or now NASA522, lifts off from the Palmdale area. This unique radar testbed is equipped with large nose and tail radomes and is used to measure the radar cross-section of stealth aircraft in flight — a critical tool for validating low-observable designs and coatings. In the past, sightings of RAT55 outside the restricted ranges of Nevada are uncommon, so catching it operating at Plant 42 was incredible! It also flew as NASA522 in support of the last Artemis mission. Yesterday it flew as LORA21. Thanks for watching!

Check out this incredible demonstration by the California Air National Guard at a past Pacific Airshow! Their C-130 Super Hercules, equipped with the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS), demonstrates how they turn a C-130 into a powerful air tanker. They see a lot of action during California’s wildfire season! From the 146th Airlift Wing, these dedicated Guard members train hard and respond fast when called upon by CAL FIRE and the U.S. Forest Service. Whether it’s wildfire season or public demonstrations like this, they represent the very best of service and readiness. Huge thanks to the California Air National Guard! I really hope they bring these guys back for more shows! Sorry for the poor audio, jet noise blew out my microphone.
