#BREAKING 🚨 Civil war erupts in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu! Heavy clashes have engulfed the Failed state once again exposing the fragility of Somalia’s internationally backed political settlement. Despite years of international intervention & billions in assistance, deadly fighting has broken out between forces aligned with the federal government whose provisional mandate has expired and opposition groups who seek power. Reports indicate that heavy weapons, including equipment reportedly supplied by allies such as Türkiye and Egypt, are being deployed by forces aligned with the President as fighting intensifies. The latest violence raises serious questions about the sustainability of Somalia’s political model & the effectiveness of continued international efforts to hold it together.

#BREAKING_NEWS 🚨🚨🚨 The Foreign Minister of #Djibouti confirms talks between #Ethiopia and #Somalia in #Kenya and states another round is expected in Djibouti! The FM states that Djibouti is aiming to mediate between Somalia and Ethiopia to preserve Somali’s so called territorial integrity. Additionally, the FM states that no formal agreement has been reached between #Somaliland and Ethiopia following the MoU and the Djibouti is working towards bringing Ethiopia and Somalia together.

Mahmoud Adam Jama “Galaal”, highlights the strong partnership between the two democracies and their growing trade ambitions. He confirmed that CPC Taiwan is actively involved in Somaliland’s hydrocarbon sector, with oil drilling operations expected to commence in early 2026, marking a major milestone in the nations’ economic cooperation. 1/3 President Cabdiraxmaan Cirro addressed the World Governments Summit alongside Chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem of DP World! The President stated his wish to have a trade & transit agreement in place with Somaliland’s friendly neighbour Ethiopia before the end of the year.

Somalia’s UN Ambassador Somali Mission to UN-NY, now chairing & sitting on the UNSC falsely claims “there was no genocide” This directly contradicts a UN commissioned investigation by Chris Mburu which found the crimes against the Isaaq amounted to genocide. Genocide denial from the UN’s top table is unacceptable!

As President Trump rightly labels Somalia a “failed state,” Egypt, Turkey, Qatar & Saudi Arabia sit comfortably in Davos. Will any of them speak up in Somalia’s defence? Don’t hold your breath. They’d choose Trump over Somalia in a heartbeat, yet they lecture Somaliland on who it can & can’t engage with. Actually, I understand Egypt not speaking out, as the Egyptian President stated the same truths live on TV standing next to the President of Somalia.

Anyone who supports Somalia against Somaliland is morally bankrupt & can no longer hide behind ignorance as a defence! Somalia’s ambassador to the United Nations denied the state sponsored genocide committed by his country, whereas his boss, the President of Somalia, speaking in Somali states otherwise. Somalia’s selective solidarity & justice exposes its political opportunism, not genuine principle.

We should not be shocked by African leaders falsely invoking international law in Somalia’s defence when many struggle to uphold, interpret, or even respect their own constitutional and legal frameworks, let alone grasp the complexities of international law. Which African Union should we believe, the one which in 2005 found Somaliland’s case to be legal, unique & justified or the one now beholden to foreign interests that work against Africa!
