Wab Kinew blocked a PC MLA from speaking at a local grand opening. So the MLA delivered his speech on Facebook instead. Swan River MLA Rick Wowchuk was scheduled to speak at the grand opening of Swan Valley Regional Secondary School’s new cultural arts centre on Saturday. But the night before, Kinew's office called the school division board chair—Wowchuk’s brother—to insist that the MLA not be allowed to speak. In 2023, the previous PC government invested $15 million towards the construction of the centre, funding that was advocated for by Wowchuk and secured by then-Minister Wayne Ewasko. The event held special significance as Rick Wowchuk was part of the school’s first graduating class and went on to teach there for 25 years.
